CHAPTER DISCUSSION

A. Text “Philosophy of Education”

PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

Philosophy of education is a study both of the aims of education and the most appropriate
means of achieving those aims. This volume contains substantial selections from those works
widely regarded as central to the development of the field. These are the "essential texts" that
lay the foundation for further study. The text is historically organized, moving from classical
thought (Plato, Aristotle), through the medieval period (Augustine), to modern perspectives
(Locke, Rousseau, Wollstonecraft), and twentieth-century thinkers (Whitehead, Dewey).
Each selection is followed by an extended interpretative essay in which a noted authority of
our time highlights essential points from the readings and places them in a wider context.

B. TERJEMAHAN

pemikir abad kedua puluh (Whitehead Dewey).

1. I drank ice cream and milk tea. (Saya minum es krim dan teh susu)
2. I drank a lot today.

1. He went to work.
Artinya: Dia pergi bekerja.

Meski tanpa penjelasan, kalimat ini cukup dipahami dan tidak menjadikan sebagai
kalimat rancu, sebab sudah dapat dimengerti bahwa “He” (dia laki-laki) pergi bekerja.

2. They cried.
 Artinya: Mereka menangis.

Tanpa harus dijelaskan, kalimat ini juga sudah cukup jelas menerangkan bahwa
“they” menangis.

Contoh selanjutnya yang memiliki alur makna sejenis yaitu:

3. You go late.
Artinya: Kamu pergi terlambat.

4. Hani often coughed.

Artinya: Hani sering batuk.
5. My sister is running.
Artinya: Saudara perempuanku berlari.

6. Riko will go to school.

7. I will arrive at the home tomorrow.

Artinya: Saya akan sampai di rumah besok.

8. Rina often smiles.
