LESSON 1: SCIENTIFIC METHOD

The initial observations in the situation are Janna noticed that there are crushed eggshells in the pots of orchids in
her neighbor’s garden and She observed the orchid leaves in the garden and she saw that the leaves are dark green
in color.

The real problem in the experiment is Janna wants to find out if the eggshells affect the growth of the orchids in the
garden.
The tentative explanation to the problem were the orchids with eggshells will have greener leaves than those
without eggshells because as the eggshells decompose, minerals in the shells and in the membrane will provide
Janna find out the explanation to the problem if correct by asked her father to help her prepare a greenhouse to

conduct an experiment. They purchased 10 pots of orchids of the same variety, size and age. She arranged the 5 pots
in the left corner of the greenhouse and another 5 pots in the right corner. Then, she made an initial record of the
appearance of the orchids in her notebook. Together with her father, they collected some eggshells, crushed them,
and distributed them equally among the 5 pots in the right corner. All the orchids were taken care of in the same way
for 45 days.

Yes, there was a fair testing in Janna’s experiment. It is done by changing only one factor at time while keeping all
other conditions the same.

Independent variable: the orchids

Dependent variable: crushed eggshells (in the pots of orchids)
Constant variable: orchids with no eggshells.

Independent variables is the condition that is varied or manipulated (orchid).

Dependent variables is the condition that results from manipulation or affected by the independent variable.
Eggshells affects the growth of the orchid that give darker leaves.

Problem: Why does the electric fan not functioning?

Gathering Data: Observe the outlet source if it has an
electrical and check the electrical cords of the electric
fan
Formalating Hypothesis: The outlet source o is maybe
no power supply. The electrical cord maybe broken.
Testing Hypothesis: Connect the electrical cord to
outlet source. Check if there is an electrical power.
Conclusion: Finding the best solution. If not working,
consult to the technician for repeair.

Gathering Data: No power when you press the power
button. The laptop has no power.

Issue/Problem: Improper waste disposal of face mask

Gathering data: No trash bin in any area. No sign of trash bin.

Make Hypothesis: Maybe the brgy. captain has no funds. Maybe the Mayor has no funds.
LESSON 1: SCIENTIFIC METHOD
Testing Hypothesis: Improvised a trash bin for every individual member of a barangay beside outside of the house.

Conclusion: Every member of the family of the barangay can donate/make their trash bin so that there a trash bin in
every part of the barangay. Implement the moral values of the people in the community to know how the proper
disposal of face mask.
