Solve each system below by substitution. Remember to write your solution as a coordinate pair
(point).
𝑎. 𝑦 = −7𝑥 − 12 b. 𝑦 = −8𝑥 − 11
6𝑥 + 4𝑦 = −4 −2𝑥 − 2𝑦 = 8

Solving Word Problems: Create two equations to model the situation given. Be sure to define each
variable and state your final answer clearly.

c. Tammy and Lia are saving for a shopping spree but want to have the same amount of money
when they venture out Tammy currently has $120 under her mattress and is stashing away

many weeks do they need to wait until they can go on their shopping spree?

d. Clay has $8.80 in pennies and nickels. If the number of nickels is twice the number of pennies,
how many of each coin does Clay have?
Write the equation of the line that passes through the given 2 points.

e. (-4, 0) and (-2, 3)

Simplify the following exponential expressions. Your answers should contain only positive
exponents.
3𝑥 2 𝑦 4 𝑧 7
f. 3𝑥 4 𝑦 −8 ∙ 8𝑥 6 𝑦 3 g. (3𝑎4 𝑏)2 h.
6𝑦 8 𝑧 3
