4.1. CONCEPTUALIZACIÓN

El Past Continuous se forma con was / were + gerundio (-ing).

We form the affirmative sentence with was/were and the main verb add Ing.
(Formamos el pasado continuo con was/were y al verbo principal se le agrega Ing.)
Example:
• I was working
• They were watching TV.
We form the interrogative sentence by putting was/were before the subject and the main verb add Ing.
(Formamos la oración interrogativa poniendo was/were antes del sujeto y al verbo principal se le agrega Ing.)
Example:
• Were you working?
• Were they watching TV?

We form the negative sentence by putting not after was/were and before the main verb add Ing.
(Formamos la oración negativa poniendo NOT después was/were y antes del verbo principal al que se le agrega Ing.)
Example:
• I was not working
• They were not watching TV

PAY ATTENTION

ING significaría en Español la terminación del verbo principal en ANDO, IENDO, ENDO.
Ejemplo: Jugando, corriendo, comiendo, bailando.

SOME RULES.

• Cuando el verbo principal termina en e, quitamos la e y le agregamos Ing al verbo.


Ejemplo: Dance ¬→ Dancing.
• Cuando el verbo es monosílabo y va una vocal entre dos consonantes, duplicamos la última consonante.
Ejemplo: Swim → swimming. Put → Putting

• Ago → Hace
• Yesterday → Ayer
• Last week → La semana pasada
• Last month → El mes pasado

A STRANGE EXPERIENCE
Last month I was on holiday in Ireland with my mum and dad. One day, we were driving through a small village. It was time for lunch, so
we stopped at a restaurant .
It was a large , old builiding. We looked through the window. There were lots of people in the restaurant. They were eating , drinking and
chatting . A musician was playing the violin. But there was something strange about the people . They weren't wearing normal , modern
clothes. They were wearing hats, jackets and dresses from another century . We couldn't understand it. But we were hungry , so we
opened the door .
When we went into the restaurant, everything was different. The people were wearing normal clothes. The musician wasn't there- the
music was on CD. It was a very strange experience !
