Expected results: At the Human Vaccines
Project, we are taking an entirely new
approach to fighting disease. Harnessing the
enormous potential of artificial intelligence,
we are conquering one of the greatest
remaining frontiers of human health—the
immune system.
Actual results: Vaccines that harness the
human immune system already have added
decades to our lives. They have helped
people conquer and control a wide range of
diseases, but humanity is increasingly held back by the limits of scientific
knowledge.
Today, the diseases that people have to battle are much more biologically
complex than those conquered in the past. Despite decades of work and
billions in investment, vaccines for HIV, tuberculosis, and cancers have evaded
scientists’ best efforts and humanity remains unprepared against the next
pandemic.
Conclusion: At the Human Vaccines Project, we are taking an entirely new
approach to fighting disease. We are harnessing the power of the human
immune system with the enormous potential of machine learning and artificial
intelligence, to decipher the key principles guiding human immunity across
diseases.
