OBJECTIVE
To become familiar with the practical aspects and the applications
of the WilsonMirror.
EQUIPMENT

• Transistors:2N3904(03)
• DigitalMultimeter(DMM) •Resistors:10kΩ
• Potentiometer100kΩtouseasRL

THEORY
AWilsoncurentmirrorisathree-terminalcircuitthatacceptsaninputcurentatthe
inputterminalandprovidesa"mirrored"currentsourceorsinkoutputattheoutput
terminal.Themirroredcurrentisaprecisecopyoftheinputcurent.Itmaybeusedasa
Wilsoncurrentsourcebyapplyingaconstantbiascurenttotheinput.Thecircuitis
namedafterGeorgeR.Wilson.Wilsondevisedthisconfigurationin1967.
Inorderforittofunctioncorrectly,thefolowingconditionsneedtobemet:

1.Q1,Q2andQ3arebematched,sotheircolectorcurentsareequalforthe
samebasecurrent
2.Althreetransistorshavethesamecommon-emitercurentgain,

PROCEDURE
1.UsingaMultimeter,measurethevalueofalResistorbeingusedinthecircuit.Also
verifyworkingofyourBJTbytestingitwithDMM.
2.Nowconnectthecircuitasperthecircuitdiagram.
3.FindthevaluesofVBE,IrefandIofor5differentvaluesofRLbetween1KΩto33KΩ.
4.TheoreticalCalculations:
Solvethecircuitusingapenandpaperandevaluatethetheoreticalvalues.
