Case Analysis 1: Expired Gravy

Mang Toot’s fast-food chain has been known in the business not just only for
its great tasting food and excellent services but also for its cleanly prepared dishes.
One day, Emong, a service crew of Mang Toot’s Makati branch, was preparing the
gravy. He was unaware that the starch he used was already expired. He only noticed
it after some time and the gravy had already been served to some customers.
Knowing that it might cause harm to the customers, he immediately told Bartolome,
the branch manager, about it. Bartolome told Emong not to tell anyone about it,
besides no one is complaining.

Questions:
1. What is the moral issue in the case?

Answer:
The moral issue that we can see in this case is that Emong become careless to
not check first the ingredients that he may use. He should be aware on his action
before he put it on act, so he can avoid such issue. That is a bad side of his action, but
once Emong already noticed that the gravy he already served is expired, he
immediately told their branch manager who is to be Bartolome. In that action, he
shows us his good side.

2. If you were Bartolome, what are you going to do?

Answer:
The action of Bartolome is immoral but we cannot blame him because he just
does what he thinks is the right action. If I were Bartolome situation, I guess I will do
the same thing.
Yes, that is an unethical manner but if we are in the real situation, we will do
the things that we think is right but definitely wrong inside. There is a case that
sometimes we need to think or do bad things for us not to harm. Besides, the case told
us that there is no one complaining. If there is one compliant, Bartolome must ready to
face the consequences of his decision. And as a person who is in favor of Bartolome, I
must beready also to face my punishment.
