A WET NIGHT

/ə ˈwetⁿ ˈnaɪt/
Late in the afternoon, the boys put up their tent in the middle of a field.
/ˈleɪt ɪn̪ ði ˈɑːftəˈnuːn/ ð̥ə ˈbɔɪz̥ ˈpʰʊt ʌp ð̥eə ˈtʰent ɪn̪ ðə ˈmɪdˡl̩ əv ə ˈfiːɫd̥//
As soon as this was done, they cooked a meal over an open fire.
/əz̥ ˈsuːn əz ˈðɪs wəz ˈdʌn̪ ðeɪ ˈkʰʊk̚t ə ˈmiːl ˈəʊvər ən ˈəʊpən ˈfaɪə//
They were all hungry and the food smelt good.
/ð̥eɪ wər ˈɔːɫ ˈhʌŋgrɪ ən̪ ðə ˈfuːd̥ smeɫt̚ ˈg̊ʊd̥//
After a wonderful meal, they told stories and sang songs by the campfire.
/ˈɑːftər ə ˈwʌndəfəɫ ˈmiːɫ/ ð̥eɪ ˈtʰəʊɫd̥ ˈstɔːrɪz ən ˈsæŋg̊ ˈsɒŋz baɪ ðə ˈkʰæmpfaɪə//
But some time later it began to rain.
/bət ˈsʌm taɪm ˈleɪtər ɪt̚ b̥ɪˈgæn tə ˈreɪn//
The boys felt tired, so they put out the fire and crept into their tent.
/ð̥ə ˈbɔɪz̥ feɫt̚ ˈtʰaɪəd̥ səʊ ðeɪ ˈpʰʊt aʊt̪ ð̥ə ˈfaɪər ən ˈkr̥ep̚t ˈɪntə ðeə ˈtʰent//
Their sleeping bags were warm and comfortable.
/ð̥eə ˈsliːpɪŋ bægz wər ˈwɔːm ən ˈkʰʌmfətəbɫ̩ //
So they all slept soundly.
/səʊ ðeɪ ˈɔːɫ slep̚t ˈsaʊndˡli//
In the middle of the night, two boys woke up and began shouting.
/ɪn̪ ðə ˈmɪdˡl̩ əv ðə ˈnaɪt̚ ˈtʰuː  bɔɪz ˈwəʊk ˈʌp ən bɪˈgæn ˈʃaʊtɪŋ//
The tent was full of water.
/ð̥ə tʰent wəz̥ ˈfʊl əv ˈwɔːtə//
They all leapt out of their sleeping bags and hurried outside.
/ð̥eɪ ˈɔːɫ lep̚t ˈaʊt əv ðeə ˈsliːpɪŋ bægz ən ˈhʌrɪd aʊtˈsaɪd̥//
It was raining heavily and they found that a stream had formed in the field.
/ɪt wəz ˈreɪnɪŋ ˈhevɪlɪ ən̪ ðeɪ ˈfaʊnd̪ ðət ə ˈstriːm həd̥ ˈfɔːmd ɪn̪ ðə ˈfi:ɫd̥//
The stream wound its way across the field and then flowed right under their tent!
/ð̥ə ˈstriːm ˈwaʊnd ɪts ˈweɪ əˈkr̥ɒs ð̥ə ˈfiːɫd ən̪ ˈðen ˈfləʊd raɪt ˈʌndə ðeə ˈtʰent#
