ESTABLISHMENT OF NEW SCHOOLS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF
DAR ES SALAAM AND APPOINTMENT OF RESPECTIVE ACTING
DEANS

The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) wishes to inform the University

community and the public that, following Senate advice, the Council of the
University of Dar es Salaam at its 262nd Meeting held on 22nd September
2020, approved establishment of three Schools: the University of Dar es
Salaam School of Economics (UDSoEC), School of Mines and Geosciences
(SoMG), and School of Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Technology
(SoAF).

Subsequently and in exercise of the powers vested upon him under section
55 of the Universities Act No. 7 of 2005, the Vice Chancellor, Professor
William A. L. Anangisye has made the following appointments:

Dr Beatrice Mkenda, Acting Dean, University of Dar es Salaam School

of Economics (UDSoEC).

Dr. Mkenda is a Senior Lecturer in the Department

of Economics. She teaches, publishes and consults
widely in the areas of international economics,
development economics, macroeconomics, poverty
analysis and gender analysis. Before this
appointment, Dr Mkenda was Head of the then
Department of Economics.

Dr Blandina Lugendo, Acting Dean, School of Aquatic Sciences and
Fisheries Technology (SoAF).
Dr. Lugendo is a Lecturer in the Department of
Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Technologies. She
teaches, publishes and consults widely in the areas
of aquatic environment and conservation, marine
sciences, aquatic biology and fisheries sciences.
Before this appointment, Dr Lugendo was Head of
the then Department of Aquatic Sciences and
Fisheries Technologies.

Dr Elisante Mshiu, Acting Dean, School of Mines and Geosciences

(SoMG).

Dr. Mshiu is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of

Geology. He teaches, publishes and consults widely
in the areas of geochemistry, GIS and remote
sensing, mineralogy and crystallography. Before this
appointment, Dr Mshiu was Head of the then
Department of Geology.

The University of Dar es Salaam congratulates the appointees and wishes

them the best of luck in discharging their duties of establishing and managing
the new schools.
