BITS ON FIRE

RULES AND GUIDELINES

GENERAL RULES

 Each team can consist of 2 participants of undergraduate level.


 Each team will be given 6 - 8 algorithmic problems with inputs and 1 PC.
 3-5 hours will be given for each team. Total duration span of the competition is 4-6 hours that
includes 1 hour of practice session. No team will be registered after the first hour of the
competition start.
 Allowable programming languages in which participant can make the programs for the given
problems are:
o Microsoft Visual C++
o Java
 Software Specifications:
o Windows XP/ Windows 7
o Visual Studio 2008/2010
o NetBeans IDE 6.8
o Java SDK 1.6u14 or higher ( and corresponding java Documents )
 Use of mobile phones and other communication devices is strictly prohibited during the
competition. Anyone seen using devices will be immediately disqualified. Such devices should be
switched off and placed in pockets / hand bags and not visible or accessible during the
competition.
 You are not allowed to collaborate with anyone else other than your team members during the
contest. This includes discussing, sharing, or posting the problem statements or solutions. Any
contestant found cheating or attempting to cheat will be disqualified. If you suspect another
contestant of cheating, please report any claims.
 You may use resource materials such as books and manuals.
 All technical queries of the participants will be entertained during the practice session which will
be held before the start of the main competition.
GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION

 Be careful to follow the output format described in the problem. We will be judging programs
based on a diff of your output with the correct solution.
 For all problems, input will be taken from a file (i.e. problemA.in) and the output will be
displayed on the console. Therefore, You must know File Handling.

HOW WILL THE CONTEST WORK?

1. In the Practice Session, students will pick a computer, set up their workspace and complete a test
problem and then there will be short break before the start of the Competition.
2. After Break, We will hand out the problems. You should then begin solving the problems.
3. For every run, your solution will either be accepted or rejected for one of the following reasons:
compiler error, run time error, time limit exceeded, wrong answer, presentation error. The time limit
for a run is one minute.
4. Live score board will be available in venue. However, the score board will be disabled 30 minutes
prior to the end of the competition.
5. At the end of the contest, no more submissions will be accepted. The contestants will be ranked by
the number of solved problems. Ties will be broken based on the total time used for correct
solutions (the time elapsed since Start plus 20 minutes per rejected solution).

The Management of Bits on Fire reserves the rights to modify the above mentioned rules and
regulations without prior notice.

THE DECISION OF THE JUDGES WILL BE FINAL
