experiences like the example below:

“Kasi dati, nabubully ako sa school. Ang pumasok lang sa isip ko nun, gumanti. Siya (KB)

ACTIVITY 1

“SALBABIDA STORY”
Anecdotes taken by: Edwin C. Peralta III

Just continue kung
ano yung ginagawa mong mabuti".

Angels with No Wings

A day will come when Death knocks on our

door.
Before then-
Not all of us will have learned, the real
essence of life;
To be, humane.

I cannot fathom the idea of living in vain

I must help the fallen, instead of turning
away.

We have eyes, yet pretend to be blind

Those who suffer, always look towards the
sky.
The good Samaritan hears someone else's
cry,
For the grieving souls, they are emissaries,
of calm.

Because some angels are born

With no feathers and no flight.
ACTIVITY 2
Activity 2: Answer the following questions based on the video clip you have watched. Write your
answers on a separate sheet of paper.

1. In the first part of the video, we are introduced to Efren Peñaflorida, 2009 CNN Hero of the
Year. To whom does he compare his friend and mentor, KB Manalaysay?
 Efren Penaflorida compared his friend and mentor to a “salbabida.”
2. What does he mean by this comparison?
 KB Manalaysay, became an inspiration to Efren during the times where hedrowning. KB
brought helped and saved Efren in the time that he desperately need someone and KB a
lifesaver to him.
3. What was Efren’s problem when KB met him? How was the latter able to help him?
 Efren was hopeless, and he even think to stop his studies because he was often getting
bullied at their school. When Efren was losing his hope and about to give up and decided to
stop from going school, KB came and helped him by inspiring and encouraging Efren and be
a Salbabida to him.
4. How has KB’s simple act of kindness affected Efren? How was it able to affect not only Efren
but many other kids like Kesz, for example?
 Efren was able to get back on his feet as a result of KB's simple act of compassion, and he
pondered on it to continue his life, especially his education, so that he might help other
people as well. This simple act of compassion inspired other children, such as Kesz, and
those on the point of giving up, such as Efren, to never give up and to keep fighting the
battles and trials that life throws at us. This inspired Kesz and Efren to help others as well,
and to be a 'Salbabida' to others.

expecting anything in return was also highlighted in the video clip. KB and Efren became an
inspiration to others.

What I Have Learned

Directions: Reflect on what you have learned in using multimedia in interpreting literary texts.
Post on your Facebook wall on how applying ICT skills makes you better appreciate studying
anecdotes.

Multimedia is a computer-based technology that integrates text, graphics,

animation, audio and video. It is rapidly gaining in popularity as an instructional
medium in the education sector. Its role in the language arts curriculum has, until very
recently - until the ready availability of commercial products - been limited to
experimental prototypes. Now, with applications being marketed by large publishing
houses, use of multimedia materials for literature in public schools has become feasible.
We will argue that in response-based contexts, it is also desirable with a number of
caveats, chief among which is the role in which the technology is cast in the classroom.
In its potentially supportive role in the literature classroom, the technology can be seen
as complementing and enhancing the following phases for developing literary
understandings. Through multimedia students can be encouraged to build meaning and
develop understandings. Given aural and visual tools with which to explore, expand,
clarify, and modify their understandings, the technology can be cast in the role of
support system for students as they develop and share their interpretations. Multimedia
can also potentially assist students in considering multiple perspectives; that is,
students can see and experience the responses of others to the same text. Varying
interpretations can be accessed via video, audio, graphics and text. As such the medium
has the potential to invite exploration of multiple perspectives.

What I Can Do
Directions: Read again the selection “Home of the Ashfall” written by John Jack Wigley share
your own experiences during a calamity or disaster, including how you handled the situation.

We Filipino are known as a brave people, that kind of calamity or disaster that come to
our country we will overcome it by the help of our God, A few days ago when the news released
that it has a new typhoon which is the typhoon Glenda many people in our barangay and other
places really hits the typhoon Glenda. My experience is when Bagyong Glenda happen it's like
other typhoons. 3:30 in a morning I woke up because of the heavy rain and strong winds. Its
really hard for me then to go back to sleep because I felt that there is something bad will
happen. So as I watched the rain poured in our place suddenly the electricity shut down. I felt
scared because I can't see nothing in our place just the sound of the rain and the sound of our
rooftop that made in iron sheets and it sound like it' gonna blown away.

Around 8:00 in the morning, there still no light and the situation became worst because the
wind blows so strong that makes all rooftop in our place ripped, others blown and others home
are destroyed. And finally, the storm stopped around 11:00 am. I went outside our house to see
the result of what typhoon Glenda's done in our place and I saw many iron sheet and ply woods
scattered, trees and some electric post fell down.

And then, around 3:00 in the afternoon the electricity went on and the first thing I do is that I
open our television and watched the news about the typhoon. I saw how the this typhoon
destroyed the houses, the road that cannot be passable because of the big tress fell on the road.
and there was 6 casualties on that event. I felt sad and at the same time blessed because God
protected us from the worst scenario.
