REACHING BEYOND INNOVATION: A GAYA-GAYA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

LIBRARY SERVICES

I. RATIONALE

COVID-19 has challenged libraries and librarians with an enormous

challenge. During the initial spread of the virus, the impact on policies and work
habits started when most libraries stayed open, some with restrictions. In a room
available to everyone and accustomed to trying to get people in the doors, not
holding them at a distance, these libraries had to work out how to implement
social-distancing policies. Then the problem grew when more libraries closed:
how to retain as many activities and facilities as possible when under quarantine,
and that was for the lucky workers who served in nearby libraries. Most remained
open for longer than advisable or too quickly re-opened for curbside checkout,
putting at risk both their supervisors and their workforce.
Let us not go back to how it was when only older members of the
population, stay-at-home moms, and competent employees could take full
advantage of library facilities and programs in general. Continuing to deliver
online services, or a broader variety of them, would also be desirable so they can
be represented by a larger diversity of individuals than in-person activities. The
libraries highlighted on the GGES library page are planned to satisfy the needs of
the library and its clientele. In addition to our library conducted various activity
such as: Online Kwentuhan (Story Telling Session), Bring a Book at Home
program and distribution of leaflet for awareness and dissemination, help the love
reading through various activities conducted such as having video story telling
uploaded in the library page and group. And even more who have not been
illustrated are doing excellent online work since COVID-19, which can be
continued. Let us make a new normal in libraries more available.

Bring a Book at Home Program

Materials from novels/story books will be brought home for reading in their spare
time. This happened during the distribution and retrieval of modules, this chose to
allow the library access to the reading materials and to respond to its clienteles
constantly. This encourages them to get the benefit of reading, such as:

 Help your child understand sounds, words, and phrases, and develop early
skills in literacy.

 Learn to respect stories and literature.

 Sparking the creativity of your child and encouraging interest.

 Assist in improving the brain, capacity to concentrate, focus, social skills, and
communication skills of your child.
Reading encourages one to be taken to another from our own environment. We may
get lost in the lives of fictitious people inside the pages of a novel and think about a
world completely different from our own. We may also learn new vocabulary and
phrases, experience a multitude of thoughts, and develop skills and expertise.

The effects of reading on child growth are vast because of the cognitive ability, and
several studies have highlighted the advantages. As such, teachers and parents are
in an outstanding place to ensure a crucial aspect of the everyday routine of children
is literacy. We will provide you with some more insight as to why this is so important
and provide some tips that you can use both in and out of the classroom.

Borrowing of Library Materials

Administrators and faculty members may check-out library materials following the
Circulation guidelines of the library.

Returning of Library Materials

Library materials may be returned without having to get inside the school premises.
A borrower may return the books by using the book drops or leaving in the guard
house located near the gate entrance. Aside from it books/storybooks borrowed
during the distribution of modules can be returned together with the modules on the
preferred scheduled of their adviser/teacher.

Distribution of Leaflets

A leaflet is made to attract clienteles and to make them interested in the library
services and provided crucial information about the library. Its designed to be visual
and straight to the point so making them easy to read is critical.

Online Kwentuhan (Online Story Telling)

Children have an intrinsic passion for stories. Stories create beauty and a worldly
sense of wonder. Stories tell us about life, about others and about ourselves. For
students, storytelling is a fascinating way to gain an insight, admiration, and empathy
towards other cultures, and can foster a positive outlook towards people from diverse
countries, races, and faiths.

Visual storytelling provides space for students to explore subjects they are curious
about, extends their learning around assigned topics, and demonstrates their
learning outside the schoolhouse to classmates, learners, and parents of whom will
engage with the storyteller.

A remarkable set of personal experiences, values and ways of understanding are

shared by young learners. In the classroom, the language they study is the
instrument they use to form their perceptions and emotions. It is more than a means
of sharing knowledge and expanding ideas, it is their way of reaching out to other
people and communicating with them. Stories provide a common thread that can
help unite cultures and provide a bridge across the cultural gap.
Developing Video Story Telling

For professions that will eventually be machine-based, digital fluency and literacy are
important. Many students would need to be competent in the workplace with a wide
range of interfaces and programming skills to be competitive. As educators, we
should promote the use of accessible technologies in a positive manner.

Expose students to the advantages of developing and sharing their own ideas Give
them an ability to connect and make their own mark with the new world while still
using the internet in a protected environment. Students develop their investigative
skills, assess the authenticity and accuracy of documents, and learn about
copyrights and the correct attribution of sources by searching, criticizing, and
creating for different media.

Training and Skill Development

The Library also uses its librarian's expertise and abilities to ensure that they are put
in the school's online teaching and learning flow by gaining additional technology-
related training and understanding their critical technical skills in this New Normal.
Nowadays, the "repurposing" of the library staff is important to be ever more able to
support the employers in this difficult situation. Attending numerous workshops and
preparation that train their teacher-librarian abilities in the school for the New
Normal.
