learning objectives?
3. Developing and using range of methods – What kinds of activities are evident?
4. Managing the learning process – How is unwanted behaviour addressed? Are the learners
engaged?

and encouragement to the learners?
6. Assessing learning – Which methods are used?
7. Subject knowledge
8. Feedback – How are the learners receiving feedback?

Overall comments:

The teacher needs clear objectives though they could have been more specific. All in all, it was a
coherent lesson which did achieve its objectives however, the teacher needs to assess whether
the students grasp the objectives by assessing them, as part of the Teaching Standards 2 and 4,
as this will enable the teacher to adapt the teaching according to the student’s needs much earlier
in the lesson (Teaching Standards 4) This was a missed opportunity. In the Lesson Plan when the
objectives are read out by the students, the teacher could have gone around the room and asked
each student how comfortable they were with the objectives and double checked this by asking
them to explain what their understanding was of an objective. The teacher would then make a
mental note, ranking 1 to 10. The lesson plan itself could be more descriptive as it lists terms and
methods utilised, I would suggest taking a CPD in lesson plans just to solidify what has already
been learnt by the teacher. Focus could be on differentiation, although there is evidence of a CPD
webinar undertaken (in portfolio), I believe that more training is needed especially taking into
consideration that this is one area that has been highlighted by both mentors in the final Progress
report (see portfolio).
Good practice that I am going to use in my own teaching going forward:
