A recent initiative of the Sindh Government to embark on first ever electric-bus transportations

and logistics project for the public in Karachi has eventually been a remarkable achievement. It
has been considered a significant step towards the development as well as the sustainable growth
of the province. ‘Government needs to improve public transport and by introducing electric buses, it can
save both the cost and the environment at the same time over the time.’

However, if comparing the past recreations of Karachi to that of contemporary circumstances, it,
definitely, has been suffering due to complete power deficit and facing serious power-cut crisis
to provide people with required amount of the electricity. and to snatch them out of the darkness.
Karachi Electric (KE) has not sufficiently been able to supply the Electricity to the densly
populated city of Pakistan in the prevalent situations. Moreover, the acute shortage of power
hasn’t hit just the public but also affecting the industries hard and draging them to the verge of
collapse. Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh recently expressed his concerns and held
federal government responsible for all those repeated issues being faced by the city regarding
these factors.

The estimation of energy consumption required for the electric bus to operate (depends upon the
topography) while planning the infrastructure for charging and optimizing in the city has been an
important prerequisite to be considered while inaugurating the vehicles that would be fossil fuels,
against diesel and natural gas busses and be solely power based. The project has been a
marvelous step towards progress, however, city administration already facing serious power
shortage issues, how can be able to provide with the sufficient required electricity for the electric
vehicles to run-on because agglomeration of vehicles would be increasing in near future.

Meanwhile, transportation and energy system could be considered among the key polluters that
lead to the global warming. Whereas, in order to revamp the health of city through the
implementation of effective means and to resolve issues such as energy crisis, maintaining
environmental sustainability, economic affairs and transportation problems creating traffic
congestion, administration have to reasonable measures to deal with. Shifting the system to
electronic tools could be considered a good idea.

In contrast, considering role of corporate business world, alternatively, has been significant to
improve the aggregate progress through the contribution of producing electronic vehicles which
can be highly effective and environment friendly to restrict the pollution of metropolitan cities of
Pakistan. Environmental issues, being one of emerging issues world is facing, in the meantime,
taking reasonable measure to protect environment has undoubtedly been a socio-oriented step as
a key stakeholder.
