Unit 8 Review Hour:______

1. Classify each equation as “G” for exponential growth, or “D” for exponential decay:
2 14
______ 9 = 6(1.5)𝑥 ______ 𝑓(𝑥) = (5) ______ 423.5 = 𝑥(17)11

______ 𝑦 = 0.9941 ______ 𝑦 = −14,506(1.003)9 ______ 𝑦 = 𝑎(0.5)𝑥

Show all work for each word problem.

2. Adam Baum was riding his bicycle on one of Kansas’ flat highways. He decided to speed up to his
maximum velocity and then coast. As he coasts, he loses 18% of his velocity every 5 seconds. If it
has been 25 seconds since Adam started coasting and he is travelling 10 miles per hour, what was
Adam’s maximum velocity?

3. The population of wolves in the Colorado wilderness has been decreasing at a rate of 2.5% every 3
years. In 2009, there were 173,800 wolves. If the wolves keep leaving at this rate, how many will be
chillin in the Colorado wilderness in 2090?

4. The Algebra 2 teachers at ONW are looking to invest $500 of the Math Department’s money. Based
off of the following account options, which account should they invest their money in and why?

a) 4.8% interest compounded quarterly for 5 years

b) 4.7% interest compounded monthly for 7 years

c) 4.6% interest compounded daily 6 years

5. The amount of frozen yogurt toppings has been disappearing from a local fro-yo establishment. Jim
Nasium, a minimum wage earning employee, has been stealing and eating 1.5% of the toppings every day.
On April 10th, there were 400 pounds of frozen yogurt toppings in the freezer. If Jim eats the toppings at
the same rate each day, how many pounds of frozen yogurt toppings will be left after 10 days?

6. Al A. Bama inherited land from his grandmother Louise E. Anna. She purchased the land for $30,000
in 2015. It is estimated that the value of the land will increase by approximately 5% per year. Al
wants to know: What will the approximate value of the land be in 2066?

7. Tai Len Nol is recovering from a cold. He measured his temperature at 100 degrees Fahrenheit, then
took some Tylenol. After 5 hours, his temperature has dropped to 99 degrees. At what rate is the
temperature decreasing per hour?
