Pigs Can Use Technology

According to a new Study called Pigs Can Play Video game taken place in Purdue
University and published in February 2021, the author Rebeca E. Nordquist mentions that
researchers have discovered that pigs can play video games using their snout 1to operate the
joystick. The four pigs tested proved that they could understand the connection between their
movements and the response on screen looking forward a reward. The study shows how
intelligent these animals are at performing difficult and complex tasks, such as responding to
different sounds, and learning about spatial tasks.

In spite of their intelligence, they also showed to have some limits, such as not to be
able to up of level, compete with kids, or compete with monkeys which can use their thumbs 2,
Also recognize themselves or other pigs were not possible for them compared with others
farm animals like sheep and cattle 3that can do it. Although pigs intelligence are not important
for us, The author mentions “This study is part of a growing area in animal welfare, the study
of farm animal cognition”.
