11 (a) Determine the current in 5 ohms resistor of the below shown circuit diagram. (9)

(b) Find the power Consumed by 5Ω resistor using Super position theorem. (9)

12 (a) An inductive coil of resistance 20 Ω and reactance 31.4 Ω is connected in (9)
parallel with a capacitance of 72.1 µF across a 100 V, 50Hz supply. Find the
total current, power factor, power absorbed. Draw the phasor diagram of the
circuit.
(b) Explain the following terms i)Power factor ii)Active Power (9)
iii) Reactive Power and iv)Apparent Power
13. (a) What do you understand by efficiency of a transformer? Derive the condition (9)
for maximum efficiency.
(b) A single phase transformer with a ratio of 440/110V takes a no -load current of (9)
5A at 0.2 power factor lagging. If the secondary supplies a current of 120A at
power factor of 0.8 lagging, estimate the current taken by the primary.
14 (a) Derive the EMF equation of a DC generator and explain the significance of (9)
each parameter.
(b) A three phase induction motor is wound for 4 poles and is supplied from 50 Hz (9)
A.C system. Calculate synchronous speed , rotor speed when slip is 4% and
rotor frequency when rotor runs at 600 rpm.
15 (a) Explain different types of wires and cables (9)
(b) Define Earthing and what are the important functions of it. (9)
16. (a) Derive the relationship between line and phase voltages and currents in a (9)
balanced Delta-connected system with phasor diagram.
(b) Explain the operation of a Miniature Circuit Breaker(MCB) with neat diagram. (9)
