Reduction
BIAS/REC Calibration
Before attempting any adjustment, be sure to clean the heads, tape guides, rollers, etc. and demagnetize the
heads and all metal parts in the tape path.
Adjustments proceed in the following order: A) BIAS coarse adjustment, B) REC LEVEL coarse adjustment,
C) BIAS fine adjustment, D) REC LEVEL fine adjustment.
You will need a test oscillator such as the TEAC TO-8 (test-tone 400Hz, 6,3kHz, 12,5kHZ at -10 the below
-30dB).
Before beginning the adjustments, the controls and switches should be set as indicated.
Switch Position
POWER ON
REC TIMER OUT
RECORD L & R both "0"
OUTPUT "10"
MONITOR SOURCE
NR SYSTEM OUT
INPUT TEST
MEMORY OFF
EQ relevant TYPE tape (ı, ıı or ıν)
BIAS relevant TYPE tape (ı, ıı or ıν)
BIAS/REC Calibration adjust (ON)
BIAS (L, R) fuly counterclockwise
REC LEVEL (L, R) about center (midway)
ATTENTION!
When using different tone signals, the indicator readings should
correspond. For example, the signal -30dB(-10)dB on the indicator
-3dB(-1dB), respectively.

Dynamic Range and dbx Noise
the REC LEVEL trimmers so that both PEAK LEVEL meters indicate to -3(-1)dB.
C) BIAS fine adjustment
Reduction
With the record mode, set the MONITOR switch to TAPE. Alternately feed in a 400Hz and 12.5kHz
signal at -30(-10) dB.
Check that the PEAK LEVEL meters give the same reading for both frequencies. Adjust the BIAS
(L,R) trimmers if necessary.
D) REC LEVEL fine adjustment
Check recording level as explained in section B above. Adjust if necessary.
