Executive Summary

1.1 Description of the Business Concept and the Business

There are different energy sources available in India such as Hydro, Nuclear, Small hydro, Wind
Energy, Biomass power, Biogas co-generation, Biomass Gasification and Solar energy, but out of
all these energy, the solar energy is meritorious. Solar energy is independent, environments
friendly and pollution free. It works even at power cut, consumes very less energy, works day and
night, and works in summer, rainy, winter means all the year along and woks programmable.
Above all it does not have electrical hazard and it has got negligible maintenance. By utilizing
Solar energy apparatus like Emergency lamps, Lanterns, Cooker, Home lights, Street lights, Torch,
Fan, Radio, T.V, Power pack, UPS for Computers/Lap-top, Mobile charger, water heating system,
Room heaters and also Air Conditioner can be operated successfully.
Kunnath Solar & Lights has been designed as a self-sustaining business entity operating in India
with the goal of developing and supporting a market for a solar based household product
solutions. The initial target markets for this product will be the states of Kerala.

With energy prices increasing and an increased interest in sustainability, a market for high
efficiency, environmentally friendly lighting has been created.  This need can now be cost
effectively met with LED lighting technology.  Currently, no one has successfully entered into the
market place to fill this void.  Kunnath Solar & Lights is well positioned to step forward and fill
this void.

LED lighting technology has numerous advantages over fluorescent lighting, the current industry
standard.  It is twice as energy efficient, has a 50% longer lifetime,  has less maintenance
requirements, uses no mercury, and contributes to reduced climate control costs.   While this
product is significantly more expensive up front than fluorescent lighting, the many advantages of
the product cause it to actually save the customer money over the long term

1.2 Value proposition:

The Kunnath Solar & Lights product will provide rural & urban families with a reliable, safe source
of light. The light offers considerable economic savings over a compelling proposition for families
connected the unreliable electrical grid. Kunnath Solar & Lights India’s product will be solar
powered lights retailing for around Rs. 1000 to Rs. 50000. The lamp will have a White LED
(WLED) luminary, use rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride AA batteries, and come with a small
photovoltaic recharging panel. The end user needs addressed by the product are: More usable
light in the home for reading, working, cooking and also for outdoor gardens. Durable and
reliable in extreme conditions.

1.3 Business Philosophy:
A model that creates a sustainable business and relies on market forces where possible to take the
product to the hands of those who most need it will achieve true proliferation of the LED solar
light. As LED technology matures we expect to see the costs of the technology decline
significantly. This business plan presents a model that will stimulate the market to coincide with
these technology trends. The long-run preferred model will see manufacturing and distribution
take place through existing manufacturers and their sales channels.

1.4 Key Success factors:

The success of our plan will be subject to the following:

1. Identification of critical manufacturing and distribution partners

2. Achieving critical price points of lighting solutions
3. Ongoing technology advances and subsequent reductions in LED technology cost

Products and Services

As there are three items are intended to manufacture by this SSI, so, different
segments/components are used for manufacturing, as classified with different products
mentioned bellow:-

(1) Solar LED lantern, which is consisting of Cabinet, light diffuser glass, PCB for LEDs and battery
indicator, LEDs and Heat Sink and other accessories.
(4)Solar LED Street Light, which is consisting of Cabinet, Reflector with plate, Panel cable,
Nut/bolt accessories and Galvanized poles 15 fts etc.
