In your point of view, how can films/movies be used to teach pronunciation in your
English language classroom? Which film would you use in your language classroom
to achieve the target and why? (20 Marks)
Solution:
Film can bring a variety and flexibility to the language classroom by extending the range
of teaching techniques and resources, helping student to develop all communicative skills.
For example,a whole film or sequence can be used to practice listening and reading , and
as a model for speaking and writing.
Watching movie is one of the unique way and the alternative technique that can be used
in teaching pronunciation.we can see the students ability of understanding the movie to
increase pronunciation. Based on Keith Robinson(2007;2) defines the “the power of
seeing an actor speak, hearing their pronunciation and liking it learning, it
challenging and makes you think.”.
The writer,s has experience , most of the writer,s friends can speak english well and
remember a new vocabulary and pronounce it without learning english course. They just
watch the movie and they pronounce the word better than the writer does.Nowadays ,
many people prefer watching movie in cinema. They believe that the cinema has a better
atmosphere to enjoy the movie. People who watch movie at home are indeed happier and
freer than people who choose the cinema. In addition ,people who watch movie at home
are more comfortable.
Include general information, such as the title of the film and the director , as well
as specific questions that the students should answer as they watch the movie.To
ensure that the students are nothing the most important aspects of the movie, pause
the film occasionally to allow them to to fill in their answer.
Movies are great resources for visual learners because they enable them to
understand concepts without the barriers that hinder learning.Just like books,
movies allow students insight into the lives of different characters.
Most films these days are available with close caption that we can on or off. We can
choose whether or not to turn on the captions. After viewing the film or an excerpt
from the film,we can select comprehension questions or discussion questions to use
with our students. We may also wish to pull out various bits of vocabulary , slang
idioms or new expressions.
The quite man we can use in the classroom to teach pronunciation language.
Film is seen as a significant art form , a popular source of entertainment, and a potent
pool tool for educating individuals. By expanding the spectrum of instructional strategies
and materials, film may add diversity flexibility to the language .Film has a worldwide
power of communication due to its visual foundation.
