E Description

Engagement Have you ever had a day where everything went wrong, and you just felt super
sad? Have you ever been so excited for something- like a birthday party or
Christmas? These feelings are called emotions, and everyone feels them! Let’s
listen to a story about a little girl who felt a lot of different emotions. We will then
read “Today I Feel Silly & Other Moods That Make My Day” by Jamie Lee
Curtis. Once we finish the story, we will have an open discussion about all of
the different types of feelings and emotions.

Engagement The assessment of the Engagement portion of the lesson will be informal and
Assessment ongoing through listening to the answers given by the students during open
discussion.

Exploration After our discussion, we will watch a video on Brain Pop Jr. called “Emotions”
where we will take our knowledge of emotions and feelings a step forward.
Once we are finished, we will then discuss emotions further by having everyone
explain an event that made them feel a certain emotion. We will then show
different emotions with our faces and bodies.

Exploration The assessment for the exploration phase of the lesson will be that each
Assessment student will use their knowledge of emotions to draw a picture of multiple
people with different emotions.

Explanation Replace this description with your work. This stage of the lesson is your
part. You will cover vocabulary, concepts, ideas – whatever is necessary – to
help the students understand the lesson. Include higher order thinking
questions to help the students connect and comprehend the point of the lesson.
Provide specific details of your explanation phase. Include hyperlinks or screen
shots to videos, web resources, or mobile applications. Also, include any
presentations or documents used. You are not required to use technology for
the explanation phase but may choose to do so.
Vocabulary:
-Emotion
-Feelings
-Moods

Explanation I will assess students in the explanation phase of the lesson by asking
Assessment questions such as:

E Description

1. Explain a time when you felt this emotion.

2. If you felt angry, how could you take that emotion and change it to a
different emotion?

Elaboration Students will use a phone/tablet/iPad to take a picture of the work they have
designed. They will then send a picture to their parents through our school wide
app “HiMama”.
When they get home, they will be able to look at their work with their parents
and explain them to them. The pictures they take will be uploaded to our
classroom photo album.
