GUTU – The Reformed Church University has
applied for land to establish a campus at
Mpandawana Growth Point in Gutu.
The campus will offer Gutu residents all pro-
grammes on the market including Commerce,
Social Work, Arts, Languages and Law.
The application was received and noted by a
Gutu Rural District Council subcommittee three
weeks ago and if established, this becomes the
University’s third campus in the country follow-
ing two others in Masvingo and Harare.
RCU Vice Chancellor Prof Obert Maravanyika
confirmed the move to The Mirror.
“We intend to construct a campus at
Mpandawana in Gutu and we have applied
for 20 hectares of land from the local author-
ity. There is a lot of demand for our degree
programmes from the people of Gutu. Teach-
ers have also been inviting us to establish a
campus so that they can upgrade their certifi-
cates,” said Prof Maravanyika.
The Reformed Church University was estab-
lished in 2012.

(SDC) have lost a case in which they wanted
to pay an IT expert for services rendered to the
school in RTGS$ instead of the agreed US$.
The school wanted the whole debt cancelled
allegedly because IAO DTECH Consultancy
director, David Israel Angels had contravened
Statutory Instrument 212 of 2019 (exclusive
use of the Zimbabwean dollar for domestic
transactions) by charging in US$.
Runyararo head, the SDC and Angels had
running battles over the matter with the latter
demanding that he be paid in US$ for the
computers he supplied to the school and the
computer networking he did.
Angels took the matter to court after the
school refused to the US$.
Runyararo Primary was ordered to pay the debt
in US$ after hearing arguments from the two
parties. The school was represented by Rodney
Makausi of Makausi Law Chambers.
The work was done between February 12 and
24, 2020. Angels also told the court that Gono
was demanding bribes for her to authorise
US$ payments.
The SDC argued that IAO DTECH Consultancy
contravened the exchange control regula-
tions citing statutory instrument 212 of 2019
(exclusive use of the Zimbabwean dollar for
domestic transactions).
Angels cited SI 212 of 19 (4d) which states
that transactions conducted through author-
ized dealers for which payments are permitted
to be in any foreign currency in terms of any
directive issued in terms of section 35 of the
exchange control regulations.
“The application is dismissed with no order as
to costs,” reads the verdict given to the special
plea.
The matter has been in the courts since March
2020 when Gono filed a peace order against
Angels accusing him of disturbing her peace
by going to her residence in ZBS Masvingo and
calling her on her phone demanding payment. PC

his wife Sphelile Maroyi $14
000 maintenance per month
Maroyi demanded RTGS$30
000 from Rindai Tsvairai but the
latter argued against the claim
which he said was higher than
his salary of RTGS$19 000.
Maroyi complained that Ts-
vairai deserted the Govern-
ment house, his wife and three
children to stay with another
woman and he was no longer
looking after the family or giv-
ing conjugal rights to her.
Although Maroyi didn’t know
her husband’s salary because
she was never shown the
payslip, she said that Tsvairai
had a lot of cattle and he ran a
number of retail shops.

This was soon after High Court
Judge Tawanda Chitapi granted
her $100 000 bail.
Dube who was remanded in
custody by a lower court spent 37
days holed at Claybank Hospi-
tal where she was under prison
guard. She got her bail on Mon-
day and left the hospital eight
days later.
She also left hospital a day after
her routine remand hearing which
had to be attended by her lawyer
because she was “too sick to ap-
pear”. Many speculated that her
long stay at the hospital was to
avoid getting into prison.

What is however, peculiar
about their service is that
they persist in spite of vicious
protests against their leader-
ship by the parents they are
supposed to serve. The par-
ents have accused the schools’
administrations of corruption
and bad governance.
It is understood that Nerupiri
has no child at Vic High.

Simuforosa Magwa is a Full

cation and Culture at the Great
Zimbabwe University. She is a

MASVINGO- Due to the outbreak of
Covid-19 there will be no Miss Inde-
pendence ceremony for the second
consecutive year, MG Modelling Agency
director Gayly Mhonderwa who runs
the program told The Mirror.
Mhonderwa said they decided to shelve
the pageant for the second year run-
ning so that they do not become super
spreaders of the lethal Covid-19 be-
cause such events attract large crowds.
She also said unlike last year when
there was totally no activity at all, this
year they have arranged some audi-
tions which will be held over an hour
at Flamboyant Hotel this evening with
models drawn from Masvingo City only.
“As you are aware that the Government
is trying to contain the spread of the
deadly virus and as responsible citizens
we have shelved Miss Independence
celebrations where people gather in
large numbers, instead we are just
going to choose a winner at the audi-
tions to be held at one of our sponsor’s
hotel.
“The symbolic event which will be at-
tended by very few people is just meant
to let people know that we are also
celebrating our hard won Independ-
ence with them. The winner will also be
heavily involved in spreading Covid-19
messages to the community.
“The Miss Independence and Miss
Heroes pageants are mainly meant to
educate the youth about the impor-

Few knew the Mangoromera
ritual, and it was a closely
guarded secret.
But even the best kept secret
escapes its keepers.
A wasp makes its home from
an ingredient not known to vil-
lage men. Its home is called the
hornet's nest. The wasp protects
its nest with a potent pierc-
ing sting. Not even the bravest
man can withstand the hornet's
sting. Retreat and flight are the
only options.
In Shona, its called "Nhundu
YeMago," the fortress of the
flying insect that makes enemies
shiver and flee.
The belief is that the potence
of the wasp's nest transforms a
man into an invincible fighter. It
was mixed with remnants of a
bee hive, a lion's fat, the ashes
of the black jack plant, and
administered into a man's arms
through tiny incisions made by
a razor blade, a task only done
by a naked old woman past
child bearing age in the dark of
night, who intoned the Gods
Of War and Valour to enter the
body of the recipient.
And a fighter was thereby born.
So there was talk that George
Kumontsa had received mango-
romera, thats why whoever he
hit with a clenched fist dropped
dead, and each time George
himself revived his victim by
urinating on his face.
A boy from Muteliso village
once hit a troublemaker at
lnsaka Bar at Tongogara Growth
Point in rural Shurugwi. The
troublemaker toppled from
the verandah of the bar and
fell headlong into the dust and
remained still. Everyone thought

is broken following the
death of his uncle and
mentor Lieutenant colo-
nel Christopher Chikoto
who was declared a
provincial hero.
Chikoto died after a short
illness on April 8 and was
buried at Maveta Village
under Chief Mazvihwa
in Zvishavane on Mon-
day. He was declared a
provincial hero and his
burial was attended by
Brigadier General Simo
Maseko.
