The present simple with the third person:
Affirma�ve form
Hello dear students! Welcome to the grammar sec�on. Today we’re going to see
the present simple with the third person in the affirma�ve form.
The present simple describe rou�nes, habits and preferences.
For example:
Preferences:
He loves chocolates.
She likes soccer very much.
It hates bananas
Rou�nes:
He gets up at 6 o´clock.
She studies in the a�ernoon.
My cat drinks milk in the morning.
Habits:
He reads at night.
She eats fruit every day.
My cat sleeps on my bed.
As you no�ce the verbs with the
third person change. There are
some rules:
1. If the verb ends in a “consonant” or
“e”, we add “s” to the verb. Examples:
My mother cooks every day.
(my mother = she)
Cook ends in a consonant so we add “s” = cooks
Jhon writes e-mails in the morning.
(Jhon = he)
Write ends in a consonant so we add “s” = writes
2. If the verb ends in a “ss, x, ch or o”,
we add “es” to the verb. Examples:
My brother watches TV in the
a�ernoon.
(my brother is the third person).
Watch ends in ch so we add “es” = watches
She does homework at school.
Do ends in o so we add “es” = does
3. If the verb ends in a “consonant”+
“y”, que remove the “y” and add “ies”.
Examples:
My sister studies in his bedroom.
a�ernoon.
(my sister is the third person).
Study ends in a consonant + y so we remove
the “y” and and “es” = studies
The baby cries all the �me.
(the baby is the third person).
Cry ends in a consonant + y so we remove the
“y” and and “es” = cries
