So portrayal of characters are based on real characters in his own life especially the portrait of his mother Mrs. Larence, Miriam which is based on Lawrence's girl friend, Jessie Chambers, and Mr. morel which is based on Lawrence's father. The novel describes Paul Morel’s fixation on his mother, and how that fixation informs his other relationships. Much of Lawrence’s writing addresses the intersections between sexual desire and class identity and the consequences of denying the wants of one’s animal self.
