PCA-Structural Frame Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:
1. Describe the structural frame
2. Apply the structural frame to your personal case situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

The situation that I am choosing to analyze is some what on going. Before COVID it was
more frequent. Honeywell hires a majority of it’s employees from temp agencies in town,
most of the people they bring on don’t have a clue what it is that is done every day and the
amount of hard labor that it takes to do this job every single day. Even though that is what
training is for and a very few make it past 6 months in the job, us employees who have been
there 1+ years and have a system going for what needs to be done have expressed to
management who does the hiring that it really just hurts us more than it helps.

2) Describe how the structure of the organization influenced the situation.

Honeywell is a long day, back breaking job and it is not for everyone we tend to loose a
lot of people over the months because it’s not cut out for everyone. Most times the
company is desperate for help they reach out to hiring agencies asking for anyone who
can walk to come work for them, 9/10 times they never work out. I don’t think
Honeywell understands how much it impacts the one who have been working there full
time for years, how much it slows them down because we have to train them as well as
doing our job to meet quota for that day.

3) Recommend how you would use structure for an alternative course of action
regarding your case.

What I would do in this case if I were in charge of hiring people from an outside hiring
agency would be to take a look at their resume to see if they have anything close to what
our job entails on there, ex: lifting heavy objects, working in loud places, able to wear ear
plugs long period of times, and being dirty 100% of the time.
Once I have found maybe a few applicants take them on a tour of the building and have
them work two days to see if this was even something they would want to do for a job.

1
Yes not everyone is cut out for this type of job and we have to compromise on who we
chose, you can’t have the perfect applicant for the job.

4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned
about this frame.

I would if given the opportunity change the way we hire people, some of the people we
have had in the past have worked out for a few months at a time but they didn’t have the
drive or care to produce quality work, they just wanted to make the quantity work to get
out early for the day. They would leave the rest of us to stay and “clean” up ther messes
so it would be of quality work.
COVID has only made this situation worse by bringing on people who just walk off the
street who are not certified what so ever to do this job. I would make sure that once they
hit that 30 days on the job they would get all the certification they needed to help the rest
of us.
