The Restless Rainbow

I. PROBLEM
What will happen to the milk particles when dish washing liquid is added?
II. Hypothesis
When the dish washing liquid is added the milk particles will disperse.
III. MATERIALS
 Milk
 Food colouring
 Dish soap
 Shallow Dish or Bowl
 Cotton bonds
IV. PROCEDURE:
1) Pour some milk into a shallow dish or bowl until the milk covers the bottom.
2) Add some drops of food colouring on the milk you can a variety of colours, just be sure
to add 3-4 drops of each colour.
3) Add a drop of dish soap into the center of the milk.
4) Watch an amazement as the colours dances across the surface of the milk

V. SCIENTIFICFIC EXPLANATION
When the dish liquid is added to milk with drops of food colouring on the surface, the
soap reduce the surface tension of the milk and reacts with the fat. This interaction causes the fat
particles in the milk to move and create swirls of colour.
