This booklet contains the Language Laboratory Activities (LLA) for Book 10.
• You will need a pen or pencil and this booklet to do the activities correctly.
• All directions are given orally on the audio recording which is approximately
20 minutes long. It is important to listen carefully to the instructions and to do
the things the recording tells you to do.
• You will be told to repeat words or sentences and to ask and answer questions.
• You will also be told to choose and mark certain words or expressions, or to
write special words, phrases, or sentences.
• Most of the time the recording will give you the correct answers right away, so
you can check your work.
• The Audio Scripts and Answer Key are located in the second part of the book.

Ned wanted some coffee. He went to his favorite vending machine. This
machine always worked and was never out of coffee. Ned stuck a coin in the
slot, but the machine didn’t work. “No coffee! I can’t go out and get coffee
right now because I can’t be out of my office at this time. I guess I’ll try it
again before I try another machine.” He inserted another coin and pulled the
knobs, first for black coffee, then for coffee with cream, and lastly, coffee with
cream and sugar. They didn’t work. Finally, after he tried many times, Ned
wrote “out of order” on a piece of paper and stuck it to the machine. He didn’t
get any coffee until he went to lunch because he had no more change. Ned felt
awful all day because he didn’t have his morning coffee.
Peter: Sure. I don’t want any, but I’ll wait until you get yours.
Peter: Yes, we’re early. I can wait until you finish it.

Gina wanted to get a Rola-Cola from a vending machine. First, she
inserted the coins in the slot. Second, she pushed the button of her
selection, but the Rola-Cola didn't drop. Next, she pushed the coin
return three times. Finally, the Rola-Cola dropped, but another can
of soda fell, too. At first Gina thought, "What should I do with it?"
Then she saw a friend. She gave him the other soda. After that, Gina
went to class.

voice 2: Sure. Put the money in the slot. Make your selection and
pull the knob.

cousins. Aunt Mary and her family live here in town. My cousins and I
went to the same schools when we were growing up. It's nice to have
your relatives in the same city.
And finally in picture 9, are my brother Frank's children. They
are my newest and youngest relatives: my niece Jane and my nephew
Jack. My niece is two and a half years old. My nephew is a four-month
old baby. They're the babies of the family. I hope you enjoyed my
