causes. What percent of their revenue did they contribute towards

2. Adam bought a snowboard for $482, including 13% of HST. What


was the selling price of the snowboard before taxes?

3. A calculator that sells for $53.00 in stores is available for purchase


online at a price of $48.36. Calculate the percentage discount offered
online.

4. Banner House Inc. gives all its sales people a base salary of $54,500
per annum and a commission of 14% on all banners that they sell
over $5,000. Calculate Christine's salary last month if she sold $9,000
worth of banners.

5. Bianca receives a gross pay of $1,650 bi-weekly from her employer.


If her employer changed her pay period to monthly instead of bi-
weekly, calculate the monthly payment that she would receive.

6. If an industrial plot of land in British Columbia is assessed at


$763,000 and the property tax has a mill rate of 20 mills, what is the
property tax amount the land owner would have to pay?
7. The mill rate of a residential property in a municipality is 6 mills and
the tax rate for an industrial property is 1.30 times that of residential
properties.
a. Calculate the property tax for a residential property assessed at
$283,000.
b. Calculate the property tax for an industrial property assessed at
$536,500.

8. Shawn, the purchasing manager at a furniture outlet mall in London,


Ontario, purchased 6 beds and 7 dining tables for his showroom. If
the total HST he paid was $557.74, calculate the total cost of the
furniture purchased after taxes. Ontario has an HST of 13%.

9. Gabrielle was shocked to learn that a restaurant charged her a tax of


$19.11 on a meal with her family. The manager explained to her that
the restaurant charges 13% HST on the amount as per the rules of
the province of Ontario.
a. Calculate the cost of the meal before taxes.
b.  Calculate the total cost of the meal including HST.

10. A car costs $20,000 (including the 5% GST) in Alberta. How


much will it cost (including 5% GST and 5% PST) in Saskatchewan if
the cost of the car before taxes in both provinces is the same?
