READING UNIT 15
1. With a partner, discuss the following reasons why patients might miss a
hospital appointment and arrange them in the order which, in your
experience, seems to be most common.
 fear of hospitals, doctors, and bad news
answer : tend to be afraid of going to the hospital may have individual
trauma, then afraid to see a doctor because of past trauma, also fear of
the danger of unwanted illness
 inconvenient appointment times
answer : appointment time is not right, maybe you forget it or you
have work to do right away
 mistakes made by administration staff
answer : it often happens that the staff is too grumpy or forgets to put
in a schedule or something
 patients feel better
answer : The patient will also not come again even though there is an
appointment because the patient feels better without having to check
again, even though the appointment is required to know his condition
 patients forget
answer : Patients can also forget the appointment date maybe a lot of
thought
 patients have other things to do too ill to attend
answer : sometimes patients do too

they doing?
b. Not thínking about what they are doing.
4. Discuss whether you think the writer's idea would work or just create more
bureaucracy and damage the nurse / patient relationship.
Answer : one side of the thing written by nurses is good to remind patients
that there are appointments that must be kept for their recovery, on the other
hand it will undoubtedly damage the relationship between nurses and patients
because patients must comment that humans must have made mistakes and
other reasons because they are too busy
