 Nursing interventions

Interventions
Evaluation

1.Nurses need to maintain a calm, non threatening manner while working with
the client.
Anxiety is contagious and may be transferred from nurses to client. The client’s
anxiety level might increase if the nurses doesn’t interact with a good manner.
This might also affect them physically , for example their vital signs might be
affected.

2. Move the client to a quiet area with minimal stimuli such as a small room or
to a privacy area (dim lighting, few people).
Anxious behavior increases by the environment or external stimuli. A smaller
area gives a sense of security as compared to a large area which can make the
client feel lost and panicked.
3.Make sure to not leave patient alone when their anxiety levels are high
especially during a panic attack.
This is to ensure the patient’s safety against self-harm. Leaving patient during
increased level of anxiety may be dangerous .

4. Teach the patient to perform relaxation techniques such as deep breathing

exercises or meditation.
This is to promote relaxation and reduce stress level.

5. Maintain a trusting relationship by listening to the client, answering

questions directly, offering unconditional acceptance; being available and
respecting the client’s use of personal space.
Therapeutic skills need to be directed toward putting the client at ease,
because the nurse who is a stranger may be a threat to the highly anxious
client.
