Introduction

Just like you, I have been a stay at home


Mom since 2007. 2 good years before I
officially became a new mom.

Do you know that I was also having


productivity issues? Yes Mamma, I thought I
was losing it. I could not get anything done.
My growth was slow and painful.
My chores were always piling up.

I set out things to do each day but at the


end of the day I will find out I have not
scratched anything.

What's going on? What is the solution to all
these? At that time, I did not even consider it
to be productivity issues.

It was as though my village people didn't


want me to enjoy being a SAHM. After all, I
had a very successful banking career.
So, what did I do that turned things around
for me?

challenging at times.
4. It's very normal. Changing old habits
and adopting new ones is always a tug
of war.

If it was a piece of cake… ah!! Everyone will


be rocking na.😅 But sadly, it's not so.

Even when I started, I would start so many


tasks and not finish any of them. I would
promise myself to do better the next day but
I never seem to get it right.

Alright!! Let's get down to business.

Right now, I am going to share with you 11


habits that you can implement to be a more
productive stay at home mom. But just
before you say 11 is too much, please note
11 Habits

that you don't need to implement it all. 😉


You just have to pick the right combinations
that suit or work for you.

Again, I don’t expect you to have a perfect


day every day especially if you have more
than 2 kids like me.

If you’ve ever raised a toddler, then you


already understand what I mean.
I bet you are already practising some of
these tips.

The aim of this guide is to help you to
strengthen the areas that you are already
good at.

At the same time, you can also pick one or


two other habits to start working into your
Stay At Home Mom daily schedule. Lastly
Mamma, please keep an open mind and try
your best to implement as much as you can.

1. It all begins with a plan:

There is a common saying that goes thus,


"if you fail to plan, you plan to fail." This is
very fundamental in helping you to improve
your productivity as a SAHM.
You need to plan for almost everything so
that you don't miss out on anything.

Plan out family meals, drop off and pick ups
for kids. You can also plan out daily agenda
like fitness classes or dates with friends.
Even planning your outfit for the next day
can help you immensely.

You might want to do all this the night


before, so you wake up fresh and ready to
go about the day. Talking about night, let's
see the next productivity hack.

2. Sleep early:

"Early to bed and early to rise, makes a


baby healthy, wealthy and wise.
Go to bed early and wake up with joy

This poem just took me back to the good old
days when I was in nursery class.
You see ehh, we sang this as a nursery
rhyme, but it holds a fundamental truth. How
you sleep at night will definitely determine
how your day will go.

If you sleep late to wake up early, you will
find yourself feeling sleepy, tired and cranky
for most parts of the day.

So, start practicing this tip Mamma! I know


we’re tempted to “press phone” . Let's just
learn to say NO to that phone habit.
But how are you going to sleep early when
you have so much to do?

3. Maintain a simple night routine:

You will agree with me that simplicity is bae.


The simpler your evening tasks are, the less
stressful they are and the quicker you can
finish them off. It's just logic.

I know contingencies may want to scatter


your plans, but God no go shame us.😇
Just create the routine and keep it simple.

That way, you can sleep early and wake up
early as well. Let me just chip this right
here…

As part of your night routine, make sure you


clean the kitchen and put things away after
dinner. It will save you a lot of stress when
you wake up in the morning to start
preparing breakfast. Try this mamma and
see the difference it’ll make.

4. Always wake up earlier:

When you saw this tip, I guess you may


want to ask "how early is earlier?"
Well, waking up early does not mean you
should wake up 3 or 4 hours before
daybreak.
In simple terms, waking up earlier just
means you should wake up just before the
kids even if it's 30 minutes earlier. If you
want to have a productive day, then you
need to cultivate this habit. It has worked
wonders for me.

By doing this, I get to create a Do Not
Disturb time for myself and you can do so
for yourself too.

What can you do with this extra time?


At least, you can drink a cup of coffee while
doing a Bible study or reading a book, in
complete silence.

Imagine taking a shower, relaxing and

preparing for the day ahead without anyone


climbing on you. 😊 😌 Omo see cruise
ohhh! Oh my goodness!!

Please, wake me up from this fantasy.


Actually, it's not fantasy. You can make it
real by simply waking up early.

5. Keep a simple morning routine:

Just like the night routine, you need to also


keep your morning routine simple. Have a
simple system for how you and the kids can
start the day.

Starting the morning off on the right foot will
set you up for a more productive day.
This does not have to be complicated.

Your routine could be as simple as this:

Get up 30 minutes before the kids


Get dressed and ready for the day
Enjoy some quiet time reading and/or

planning out your day


Wake the kids up
Do your morning devotion together
Engage in your morning cleaning
routine.
Get kids dressed, teeth brushed, hair
fixed etc.
Bags should have been packed the
night before.
Eat breakfast and then see the kids off
to school.

6. Let your kids help with simple tasks:

Dear Mamma, you don't have to do


everything by yourself. Sometimes, you
need to give your kids room to help, to grow.

This is a good way of grooming the child.


When I had only my first daughter, she'd
want to help out in the kitchen.

I get her to pass me the ingredients, spices


etc sometimes she would pound crayfish.
(Please don't give toddlers pepper to pound
oo.😭)

Even though she doesnt pound it very well, I


just know she's learning from the tasks.
Now I have 5 kids and my little daughter is
now a big girl handling bigger projects in the
kitchen😁

7. Have a meal plan:

It's a certainty that you have to eat every


day and you have to feed your kids as well.
There is no getting around it. For that
reason, you need to create a meal plan. It
will help you save money, it will help you
stay healthy, and it will save your sanity.
Don't go and be doing "as the spirit leads"
with your family meals. Mbanu 😅

It will shock you one day that a very vital


ingredient is missing or that you’ve been
repeating the same food over and over
again.

Planning your meal saves you the stress of


worry over what’s for lunch or dinner. The
kids won’t even have to bug you, they just
go to the menu and see for themselves.

Plan to switch or change meal plans at least


once every 3 months.

8. Never allow dirty clothes to pile up:

Laundry can be one of the most


discouraging tasks to do especially when
there is a huge pile. So, to boost your
productivity, never allow them to pile up.

I used to let the laundry pile up until the


weekend before washing them. But now, I
discovered that I can easily do the laundry

everyday without feeling exhausted. You


might decide to have days on which laundry
is done. Say Mondays and Thursdays etc.
After all, that was how we were raised.

9. Exercise more often:

Staying fit is good business.


One way of achieving that is by engaging in
physical activities. This is very important,
because as a Stay At Home Mom, we are
mostly standing in the kitchen, sitting or
lying on the couch.

To get going everyday, we need to stretch
out those muscles a bit. You can join a gym
club if you can afford it. Otherwise, you can
search for simple exercises on YouTube
that you can perform everyday.

This will both help you to stay healthy and


boost your productivity throughout the day.

10. Find small opportunities to relax:

Work no dey finish oo.


In fact, as a Stay At Home Mom, everyday
is a working day. Too much work can make
you feel stressed and under pressure. This
is why it is very important to have time just
for yourself. You can take 15-30 minutes in
the day to relax your body and your mind. If
possible, get a nice hot bath and enjoy
every moment.

11. Marry your Husband well:

Spend quality time with your hubby, create


opportunity for quick cuddles and maintain
eye contacts.
This is the last tip I will share with you in this
guide.

Mamma! We need that love and pampering


from hubby to stay productive oo. Spending

be a more productive mom because it will
keep you happy.

When you are happy and remember how


much you love your husband, it’s easier to
want to take care of the household duties.

He is your best friend, the person you chose


to live the rest of your life with. I have not
said you should not spend time with your

day your kids will grow up and leave your
home. But, your husband will not, so don’t
forget to take care of your relationship.
