a. Calculate the actual length, in m, of the road.
The actual length of a sea wall is 1.2 km.
b. Calculate the length, in cm, of the wall on the map.
The actual area of a field is 60000 m2

2. In 2010 Neucamp productions employed 3750 people. Of these 36% were clerical staff.
a. Calculate the number of clerical staff employed in 2010

The other employees of New camp Productions are either skilled manual workers or unskilled
manual workers. The ratio of the number of skilled manual workers to the number of unskilled
manual workers was 3:2 in 2010.

b. Calculate the number of skilled manual workers employed in 2010

In 2011 the number of skilled manual workers was 25% less than the number of skilled manual
worker in 2010.
The number of clerical staff and unskilled manual workers remained the same in 2011 as in 2010.

c. Calculate the number of skilled manual workers employed in 2011.

The total number of people employed by Neucamp production in 2011 was 75% of the total number
employed by Neucamp Productions in 2009

d. Calculate the total number of people employed by Neucamp Productions in 2009.

3.
One day a cinema showed the following four film.
The taking of Algebra 123
The Binary Knot
Carry On Subtraction
The Long Division

The pie chart in figure shows information about the number of people who watched each film that day.

The angles of the sector for the film The taking of Algebra 123 is 48 and 80 people watched the film.
a. Calculate the total number of people who watched these four films.

The number of people who watched The Binary Knot was 115.
b. Calculate the angles of the sector for this film.

The ratio of the number of people who watched Carry on Subtraction to the number of people who
watched The Long Division was 2:1
c. Calculate the number of people who watched Carry on Subtraction.

5. Each morning Tang takes at random one carton of juice from her fridge and drinks the juice with her
breakfast. She does not return the cartoon to the fridge.
On Monday there are 9 cartons of grapefruit juice (G), and 6 cartoons of mixed fruit juice (M) in the
fridge.
The incomplete probability tree diagram below shows information about the juice Tang drank on
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

a. Complete the tree diagram.

b. Calculate the probability that Tang will have
I. Grapefruit juice on all three mornings
II. Mixed fruit juice on at least one of the three mornings.
III. Grape fruit juice on at least two of the three mornings.

6. The figure shows a fair twelve faced die which has one of the numbers 1 to 12 on each of its faces.

A game is to be played using this die between the two players, A and B. Player A rolls the dice once and
if the score is a multiple of 3 then A wins and the game stops.

If A does not win, B has his first turn. He rolls the die and, if the score is a multiple of 3 then B wins and
the game stops.

If B does not win then A has another turn and if A does not win on the second turn, B has another turn.
If B wins, the game stops.

If B does not win on his second turn the game stops.

a. Write down all the scores on the die that are multiple of 3.
b. When the die is rolled once, write down the probability that the score is a multiple of 3.

The incomplete probability tree diagram shows the possible outcomes after each player has rolled the die once.

c. Complete the tree diagram for the game where A and B can each have up to two rolls of the die. Label
each branch of the tree diagram with the probability of the outcome that the branch represents.
d. Find the probability that B will win on his first turn.
e. Show that the probability that A wins the game is greater than the probability that B wins the game.
