• Frank Gehry’s Walt Disney Concert Hall Is A World-class Performance
Venue To The Privileged People Of Los Angeles And A Tribute To Walt
Disney’s Devotion To The Arts, An Idea Coined By His Wife, Lillian
Disney.
• To Any Eye, It’s An Intriguing Combination Of Fervent Shapes And Forms,
A Mystery That Sort Of Regenerates Itself To The Point That It’s Never
The Same To Any Onlooker.
• In a down-town of 90 degree angles, Frank Gehry took the road less
travelled in this monumental expressionist piece of architecture.
SITE LOCATION :

• The Site Is Located At 111 S Grand Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90012,

United States
• The Site Area Is Covered With The Road Of All Four Sides Results In
Heavy Traffic And Always Makes The Building More Aesthetically
Dominant Look All Over The Surroundings Context Makes The
Building Look More Attractive And Unique Style Of Design
• The Site Is Easily Accessible Fr0m The Main Road Results In Making
The Site More Familiar With The Surrounding People And Made An
Iconic Building Making The Street More Famous And Attractive
• His proposal was largely oriented toward the public, with much of
the site allocated to open gardens.
• Several years into the project, a combination of political and
managerial impediments threatened its realization.
BUILDING FEATURES :
• In a down-town of 90 degree angles, Frank Gehry took
the road less travelled in this monumental expressionist
piece of architecture.
• With it’s ridiculously churning form, this road less
travelled must have not even existed before, to start with.
• It exudes a presence and a sense of uniqueness that gives
everyone else an excitement as they identify with it.
• To some extent, it is also a disturbance, a conflict that
defies the norm of straight lines and rectilinear
predictability in the neighbourhood.

• Herbert Muschamp from the New York times called

it a French curve in a city of T squares, “It’s a home
for everyone who’s ever felt like a French curve in a
T square world.”
• I call it an exonerating piece, releasing architects
and designers from the clear cut lines of
expectations to broader possibilities and
imagination.
• It has released a spirit of expression that gives
freedom to any thought that can be built.

STRUCTURAL DETAILS :
HVAC SYSTEM :
• Based on typical HVAC systems and the above diagrams, it is assumed
the major pipes for the system are above the auditorium and
continue around the other areas of the building.
• There were not any articles on the placement of the HVAC units.
However, we learned there was much trouble when trying to install
the units. Through the use of 4D modeling, developers were able to
model the structure to determine what would and would not work.
• The steel system was developed before the mechanical systems and
placement of mechanical equipment had to be well thought out in
order to fit into the building. Some of the steel frame needed to be
adjusted or removed in order to fit some of the units.
