Explanation
This song is about the lead singer graduating from college and entering the
working world. The academy is getting a reprieve. The term "college" is
synonymous with "academy." He's telling his parents, "I don't ever wanna let
you down." He's afraid he'll disappoint his parents. He doesn't want to leave
this place, which means he never wants to return to his hometown. “The city
never sleeps at night”, and the majority of colleges are located in a large city.
Finally, the chorus “it’s time to begins”; he's embarking on his new life in the
real world. “I get a little bit bigger, but then I'll admit that I'm just the same
as I was”. Which means he's getting ahead of himself; he believes he's better
because he's in the real world, which means he had to find a real job. Finally,
“I'm just the same as I was, I hope you understand I’m never changing who I
am”, which means that just because he is functioning in the real world doesn't
mean he has actually changed. It's possible to become so wrapped up in the
world that you forget who you are. So, while he may get caught up in life at
times, he will never forget who he is, as the chorus concludes. So, he will never
change.
