 INTRODUCTION
 Definition of depression:-
Depression is the sorrowful condition produced by the felling of guilt and worthless. The patient
gets secluded from society. He does not take part into routine work, he even loses interest in sex,
sleep and appetite.

Depression can attack in any age of childhood, adolescence or old age. It is more common in
women than men.

 Etiology of Depression:
I. Psychodynamic Theory: According to Psychodynamic view, depression is a reaction toward
the loss of some dear thing either in reality or in imagery it creates anger which the
individual introjects and hates himself, this expression of self-hatred makes him a victim of
depression.
II. Cognitive Theory: Seligman and co present depression on the basis of cognitive learning
called helplessness. According to this theory, the belief of the people that they cannot change
circumstance according to their desire, create the felling of defeatedness, hopelessness and
helplessness.
III. Biochemical Theory: According to biochemical theory, nor epinephrine, dopamine and
serotonin neurotransmitter in Biogenic Amines are related with mood disorders. The level of
nor-epinephrine and dopamine decreases during depression.

LIMITATIONS:
 The limitation of this study is the sample size.
 The present study had few potential weaknesses. For instance further studies may
require focusing on other age group, sect, religion etc.
 The second limitation is that the depression questionnaire used is too low.

This would certainly an important contribution to the body of knowledge, which would
determine how different male and female experience depression.

SUGESSTIONS:
 Suggestion may include increase sample size.
 Age range could be changed so that different result could be achieved.
 Other techniques may be used in order to conduct the more reliable research.
 Improve researches for further rea
