Design and development of multi-holed orifice plate for flow measurement

Project Description:
Multi-holed orifice (MO) plates are getting growing attention from the industry for flow measurement
application. MO plates are an advanced design of standard orifice plates with multiple holes
arrangement. As orifice plates are commonly used differential pressure flow meters because of simple
construction, low manufacturing and maintenance cost and availability of standards but have some
serious disadvantages such as massive piping requirements for installation and huge permanent
pressure losses. MO plates are known to solve these two problems and have the ability to replace the
standard orifice plates with improved performance. This project will lead to the development of
international standard for its use in the industry. It’s an entrepreneurial idea with huge target market to
exploit.

Unique Selling Points:

 Energy efficient, accurate and affordable flowrate measurement of fluids.

 Replacement of the most commonly used orifice plate flow meter.
 Savings in terms of installation and operational cost of a chemical plant.

Project Outcomes:
 PhD research thesis on MO plates.
 International standard for MO plates.
