TASK 1
1. Consider the following system of inequalities:
4x + 2y ≤16 and 2x + 2y ≤ 12
a. Graph these inequalities.
b. State the corner points of the feasible region.
2. A manufacturer of fiberglass camper tops for pickup trucks makes a compact model and a
regular model. Each compact top requires 5 hours from the fabricating department and 2
hours from the finishing department. Each regular top requires 4hours from the fabricating
department and 3 hours from the finishing department. The maximum labor hours available
per week in the fabricating department and the finishing department are 200 and 108
respectively. If the company makes a profit of $40 on each compact top and $50 on each
regular top.
a. How many tops of each type should be manufactured each week to maximize the total
weekly profit, assuming all the tops can be sold?
b. State the corner point that produces the maximum profit.
c. Find the maximum profit.
3. Find the derivative of each of the following functions.
a. f(x) = 8x – 3
b. f(x) = 3x2 + 2x + 1.
c. Find f ’(3) , If f(x) = x3 - x2 + 3.
4. Using differentiation rules find the derivative of each :
a. f(x) = ( + 1)( + 3)

b. f(x) =

c. f(x) = (2x − 3x )
5. A company manufactures furniture. The total weekly cost (in dollars) of producing x
furniture is given by: C(x) = 24700 + 120x – 2x2.
a. Find the marginal cost.
b. Find the marginal cost at a production level of 500 furniture per week.
c. Find the exact cost of producing the 501st item.
6. The cool Air company has determined that the total cost for the production of it’s
refrigerators can be described by: C(x) = 2x2 + 15x + 1500
Where x is the weekly production of refrigerators and C(x) is the total cost in dollars. The
revenue function for theses refrigerators is given by: R(x) = - 0.3x2 + 460x
Where x is the number of refrigerators sold and R(x) is dollars. Determine
a. Marginal cost function.
b. Marginal revenue function.
c. Profit function.
d. Marginal profit.
7. The price-demand function and the cost function for of bottled water produced by Biyo Siho
Borama are given below.
Demand function p(x) = 5000 + 5x2
Cost function C(x) = 1800x + 1200.
a. Find the revenue function.
b. Find the profit function.
c. Find the number of bottled water produced to achieve the maximum profit.
d. Find the maximum profit achieved.
8. GOLJANO restaurant modeled the cost function and the revenue of function of it’s
Hamburger product. Where x is the number of Hamburgers’ produced per day.
R(x) = -x2 + 24x
C(x) = 12x + 28
Find the daily maximum profit that the restaurant will earn.
