- Provides quick glance of network elements,

e.g., area numbers, bus numbers, machine
ID’s, etc.

- Displays data in each category, e.g., area, bus,

branch, machine, load, etc., in a folder with

n Prerequisite:
Power Flow for SAVNW_DS System: savnw_ds.sav

1. Determine which branches are loaded above their normal rating

© 2014 Siemens Industry Inc., Siemens Power Technologies International (Siemens PTI)
(RATEA)

2. Determine which buses have voltage above 1.03 p.u. or below 0.97 p.u.

3. Find all regulating transformers (tap changing and phase shifting) and
determine what they are regulating.

4. Find all shunts (capacitive and reactive, fixed and switched) and
determine whether they are set up to regulate voltage.

n Prerequisite: Power Flow for SAVNW_DS System: savnw_ds.sav

1. Increase bus shunt capacitor at bus 154 from 300 to 800 MVAr, re-solve
with a Newton-Raphson Solution Method, allowing regulating transformers
(LTCs and phase shifters) to be adjusted.

2. Find out which buses do not reach desired voltage (that is, voltage setpoints
for regulated voltage buses) and determine why. Which buses are remotely
controlled?

3. Which is the swing bus? Which generator has the lowest power factor? Is it
a reasonable power factor?

Balanced Switching Procedure

n To calculate the instantaneous changes in the network for switching events,

e.g. line switching, capacitor or reactor switching, or fault analysis:

1. Pick up the power flow case. Make sure it is solved.

2. Convert loads and generators with generation and load condition at

© 2014 Siemens Industry Inc., Siemens Power Technologies International (Siemens PTI)
t = t0-
Power flow → Convert loads and generators
(activities CONL and CONG)
3. Order network (optional step)
Power flow → Solution → Order network matrix (ORDR)

4. Save converted case with t = t0- condition

Remember to use a different file name!

5. Apply disturbances

6. Factorize the network matrix after disturbances

7. Solve case for t = t0+ condition
Power flow → Solution → Solution of Switching Studies (TYSL)

Rules for Adding Sequence Data …

1. All transmission branches (lines and transformers) have the same

impedance, charging, and line-connected shunt in the negative-sequence
as in the positive-sequence.

2. All transformers have phase shift in the negative-sequence equal and

opposite to that in the positive-sequence.

© 2014 Siemens Industry Inc., Siemens Power Technologies International (Siemens PTI)
3. All zero-sequence branches, transmission branches (lines and
transformers) , line-connected shunts, and bus connected shunts are
assumed to have infinite zero-sequence impedance unless a different value
is entered specifically via activities RESQ or SQCH.

4. All constant MVA and constant current load specified in the positive-
sequence data are converted automatically to constant shunt admittance in
the positive-sequence network.

Siemens Power Academy TD-NA – PSSC 550 Dynamic Simulation Page 1-60
Rules for Adding Sequence Data

5. All loads are automatically represented by the same shunt admittance in the
negative-sequence as in the positive-sequence unless a different negative-
sequence shunt admittance is entered specifically via activities RESQ or
SQCH.

6. Loads are open circuits in the zero-sequence unless represented

specifically by entry of a value of shunt admittance via activities RESQ or

SQCH.

7. Lines considered as zero-impedance branches in positive-sequence are

considered as zero impedance in the negative- and zero-sequence.
