CHAPTER 1 – INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER

SECTION B

Answer the following questions:

Q.1: Name the two types of memories.
Ans: The two types of memories are Primary and Secondary.
Q.2. Who is known as “Father of the Pentium chip”?
Ans: Vinod Dham is known as Father of Pentium chip.
Q.3. What is Data hierarchy?
Ans: Data refers to raw facts and figures that may consist numbers, sounds, pictures and
images.
A computer system process data and gives information that for various purposes.
The data is stored in the form of bits and bytes in computer a database.
Q.4. Define Fields and Records.
Ans: A field is a collection of bytes that contain information about an item. For example, the
name of students, his/her age and his/her class.

A record is a collection of inter-related fields. For example, a student’s record may

contain field such as name, age, class and subject.

Q.5. Write a short note on 3 D printing.

Ans: 3-D printing technology is changing the way we produce objects from tool and toys to
clothing and even body parts.
3-D printing is a part of process known as additive manufacturing where object is created
by adding material layer-by-layer.
Additive manufacturing allow creating complex part of machines, airplanes and cars.
The common material used in 3-D printing is plastic.
e.g. Food industry, Medical science etc.

Q.6. Write short notes of the following with suitable examples:

Application Software and System Software.
Ans:

Application Software: It consists of program that are designed to do specific tasks such as
payroll, inventory, word processing, graphic, spreadsheets and desktop publishing.
System Software: It performs those basic functions that are necessary to operate a computer
system. It controls the various resources of a computer system. The operating system (OS) is an
example of System Software. E.g. Windows, Linux, Android.

Q.7. What is the relationship between computer Hardware and Software.

Ans: The hardware and software together make a computer system. Both are essential
components of a computer system.
Hardware is the physical components of a computer system and software are the
instructions or commands that make the hardware and software operational.
The software is the driving force of a computer.

Q.8. Explain the types of Printers.

Ans: There are mainly three types of printers:
Dot Matrix Printer: This printer contains movable print head with pins that strike the
ribbon placing a dot on the paper with hundreds of dots forming images or text.

These printers are less expensive but are very noisy. The speed of this printer is in cps
(Character per second)
Inkjet Printer: This printer forms letters and images on the paper by spraying small
steam of quick drying ink. The speed of this printer is in lps (Line per second)

Laser Printer: This printer uses laser technology to print images on the paper. This gives
the best quality output and are the most expensive. The speed of this printer is in pps
(page per second)

Q.9. Explain computer memory with its types:

Ans: Storage devices enable to store data and information in them. The storage devices of a
computer system are known as computer memory.

There are two types of computer memories: Primary and Secondary.

Primary Memory: It is often called the working memory, internal memory or the main
memory of a computer system. RAM and ROM are two major types of primary memory.

Secondary Memory: It is often called external memory of a computer system. It is used

to store date for a long time. It operates at a slower rate than primary memory. Secondary
memory is permanent in nature. i.e. data stored in secondary memory are not lost when
the computer is switched off. So it is also called the non-volatile memory.
Q.10. What do you do when your computer is Hung?
Ans: Step 1 close the application if possible

Step 2 Open the task manger using start button.

Step 3 The Task Manger window appears.

Step 4 It shows all the applications currently running.

Step 5 If there is any problem with some application we see the

NO responding message in the status column.

Step 6 Select the application. Now click on the

Step 7 Now click on the end task button to terminate the problems.

Step 8 If the problem is still there, restart your computer.
