III. PROCEDURE

Teacher’s Activities Learner’s Activities

A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
1. Prayer

Let us start our class with a prayer. “The Lord’s Prayer”

(The teacher will call somebody to lead the class
with a prayer.) Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy
name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on
earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily
bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we
forgive those who trespass against us; and lead
us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
2. Checking of Attendance

Are all present from the class today? Yes, ma’am! We are all present.

3. Checking of Assignment

Kindly past your assignments. Yes, ma’am!

4. Review of the Past Lesson

In the previous lesson, you have learned about the

characteristics and uses of pulley.

 What is pulley? Pulley is a modified wheel and axle.

 What are examples of pulleys? Flagpole, deep well

 How are pulleys useful in our daily life? It is used to lift loads, apply forces and transmit
power.
B. MOTIVATION
SAFETY REMINDERS: Do not attempt to
handle sharp objects without adult
supervision. Observe safety measures in
handling sharp objects.

Directions: Identify and manipulate the objects

given by your teacher, and describe it how it
works.

1. It is an axe. It has a double inclined plane

1. that has a sharp end that is use to split and cut
woods.

2. 2. It is a knife. It has a double inclined plane that

has a sharp end, too. It is used for cutting meat,
and slicing fruits and vegetable.

3. 3. It is a spiral form of the inclined plane. It is good

for holding things together and lifting objects
because of the threading around the shaft. Some
examples of the uses of a screw are in a jar lid, a
drill, bolt, and faucets.

Very good! These are examples of simple

machines. Simple Machine is all around us.
Simple machines are tools that make work easier.
They allow their user to accomplish more work
while expending less energy.

What do you think is our lesson for today? Our lesson for today is all about simple machines.

Yes, that is right! You got the idea. Our lesson for
today is all about simple machines about wedges
and screws in particular.

Kindly read the learning objective. At the end of a 50-minute lesson, the learners will
be able to manipulate simple machines to
describe their characteristics and uses.

Before anything else, let us always remember the

Classroom Rules:

 If you want to answer, just raise your hand Yes, ma’am!

and wait your name to be recognize before
standing and speaking up. Do not shout.
 Respect the opinion of your classmates and
avoid bullying.
 When the teacher is talking, you listen
carefully.
 Participate in class discussion.

C. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES
1. Activity
The teacher will divide the class into three groups.
Each group will be given a task to be done in 5
minutes. In each group, choose among your group
a leader, a secretary, and a reporter. All the
members of the group will participate.

together than the nails. It may also lift heavy
objects like cars and equipment. Like all other
simple machine, screw is design to make work
easier.

3. Why is screw important? 3. Why is screw important?

Answer: ________________________ Answer: It tightens objects and hold things
securely.

3. Abstraction

In the given activity, you have observed that all the

given examples are simple machines in which the
edges are sharpened for its designated purpose.

The given examples are used to separate

objects. Axe and saw can be used when we cut
woods. Knife and blade can be used when we
slice or peel off vegetables and fruits.

The given examples are used to put together

objects. Needles are commonly used in
dressmaking. Push pins and tacks are used in
mounting objects on surfaces. Staples are
essentials for paper binding.

All examples stated are classified as wedges.

Our work became easier because of the help

of a machine. One of the six simple machines is
the screw. Like any other simple machine, screw
has its own characteristics and its uses. As you
can see, the screw has a groove which is called a
thread. It also described as spiral inclined plane. It
is stronger to hold or tighten things together than
the nails. It may also lift heavy objects like cars
and equipment. Like all other simple machine,
screw is design to make work easier.

4. Application
Directions: Choose one example of wedge or (Answers may vary)
screw at home. Give its characteristics and
perform it in front on how it is used.

5. Generalization
 What are the characteristics of wedges as a (Answers may vary)
simple machine? What are the examples?
 What are the characteristics of screws as a

 How important are screws and wedges in our
daily life?

6. Values Infusion
Simple machines are essential in our daily lives (Answers may vary)
because they help us make our work faster and
easier. Thus, it is vital to utilize them wisely to last
its functionality.
