Situation 1:

You are to set a 3 digit combination lock with 3 rotating wheels each with 10 different numbers.

Solution:

The answer is obtained by P(10,3)

Where we can read it as the permutation of 10 digits taken 3 at a time.

the answer is there are 720 ways you can set a lock in a combination lock.

Usage in Daily Life:

We use a combination lock if we are not fond of carrying a key always.

Combination lock are very useful and efficient, but we have to be very careful in setting up the
digit codes since these are very difficult to open specially if we forget the digit codes.

Problem 2:

The number of ways a professor can arrange 10 students in a row?

Solution:

The answer is obtained by the permutation P(10,1) = 10 ways.

Usage in Daily Life:

Seating arrangement is important to a teacher because this can be

a way to manage behavior in class. For example, he may choose to not let two noisy students

sit together or he can put three students sit side by side so they can help each other.

Problem 3:

In how many ways can 8 senators sit in a round table?

Solution:

Since the table is circular , it will follow a circular permutation  arrangement.

Hence, it follows the formula (n-1)! where n is the number of objects being arranged.

Therefore, the number of ways is (8-1)! = 5040 ways.

Usage in Daily Life:

Seating arrangement of the senators in a round table is important because not all of the senators
are of the same side. The proper arrangement should be per party to avoid misunderstandings
when they are discussing important issues in the country.

An example of permutations would be the arrangement of books on a shelf. An easy one is to say
there are 5 different books...how many ways can you arrange them on the shelf (in the typical
upright position of libraries) ?? Answer - then you have 5 choices for the first book, 4 choices for
the second (because you cannot use the one you have already placed on the shelf), 3 choices, etc.
So multiply 5*4*3*2*1 = 120 ways. Now you can see why the chances of winning a lottery can
be so slim. (Consider the number of ways you can arrange ten (0-9) digits in a given number of
slots.)

In our daily life, we always count things. For the example when we are dressing. We may count
the number of possible ways to choose a pair of trousers, a shirt and a jacket from the wardrobe
for a proper match. Sometimes, the number we count is so huge that the counting job is not easy.
However, some kinds of mathematics may help us do it in a systematic way.
Oftentimes, we unconscious that the benefit of permutations is happen in our daily life. And
permutations is be able to count the number of ways for determine something which respect with
the order. For the example to determine election of structure organization. We are given the
option to specify the position of the post of chairman, assistant of chairman, secretary, treasurer,
etc.. Moreover, the permutation can also be used to determine the number of ways in the
preparation of a series of letters in the word or the other.

A father who was waiting for his wife in labor, he has prepared ANI name for the baby that will be born. Moments
later, the midwife told me that she would give birth to twins the father thought, how many twins that can be named
using the letters in the word ANI?
From this story, the old man took to the first letter of the three available letters. Next take a letter to the second letter
of the two remaining letters. Finally, take a single letter for the rest of the third letter.
If we find the number of letter ANI to be another name by manual that can be:
- ANI
- INA
- AIN
- IAN
- NIA
- NAI
Based on the basic rules of counting, the number of arrangements 3 elements ( letters ) differ in no particular order
with no elements ( letters ) that may be repeated is = 3 x 2 x 1 = 6 arrangement .
In general, the preparation of n distinct elements in a specific order with no repeated elements is called a
permutation of n elements.

In this modern era, we often face with password. Password used by the user so that it becomes something that
belong more privacy. For the example in mobile phone or netbook, both are familiar with his name password.
Usually someone makes a difficult password or the easy one. Difficult or not the password was influenced by the
choice of the user to create a password. The more digits are used increasingly difficult eating hackers to break into
password, it is called because the more digits, the more possible arrangements of digits required, if the password
consists of a 2-digit number then obtained 100 variance, it is necessary try to break into the possibility of 100 Next
time try. And so on.
