AbrasiFRAC The service downhole hardware includes the ABRASIJET tool and
other additional tools. In general, these services are performed by pumping
sufficient sand down a length of coiled tubing through jets directed at the casing
to perforate it and cut into the formation for some distance. The tools are then
moved a safe distance from these perforations, and a fracture treatment is done
by pumping down the CT casing annulus. This process can be performed for
each zone that requires a fracture treatment. In addition, having the coiled tubing

in the well facilitates clean out between each perforation and fracture cycle.

Keep tools, hands, and clothing clear of areas that may snag you. Remember
that some tools and equipment are heavy and can easily crush a human body.
Wearing your protective clothing, gloves, hard hat, and steel-toed shoes can
help prevent injuries.
Lifting precautions
Never attempt to move or lift a heavy tool string by hand, regardless of the
number of people available. Only lift using a crane or forklift.
• Never attempt to move a heavy object alone.
• Carefully plan the lifting and moving of the tool in advance. Use undamaged,
properly rated lifting straps. Place strap(s) near the center of gravity point
and verify the center of gravity before moving through a significant distance.

Pin configuration for the 3-in and 4-in OD guns, and a 1-1/2 AM MT Box X Pin for
the 2-5/8-in OD gun.

Note
The AbrasiJET nozzle face must flush against the flat surface of the gun housing.
A leak can erode and washout the nozzle, if it is not properly installed against
the housing.

Note
The nozzle is supplied as an assembly with the size 0.141–in, with O-ring
installed. Order for (P/N M-010014) If extra O-rings are required. Necessary
inspections must be done on the AbrasiJET Guns after their use, to make sure
that the Internal Diameter (ID) and Outer Diameter (OD) are not eroded more
than the usable condition. In general, the most vulnerable point in the tool is the
area near the entrance to nozzle in the ID of the jetting gun housing.
Note
The ID of the sub has eroded beyond use if the threads of the nozzle are visible
from the ID when a new nozzle is being installed. On the OD, the sub can
withstand some erosion, but if the erosion is deep enough to have removed more
than 1/4-in of material, then the sub should be replaced.
Note
The nozzles must be installed with Loctite thread locking compound. Use a
3/4-in X 16 Fine UNF thread tap to remove the leftover compound. Do not use
force to install nozzles on a improperly cleaned thread, as it will not seal properly
and will give incorrect torque outputs.

Larger AbrasiJET nozzles must be installed with a split wrench, (P/N 464920000)
(Figure 6-1). The wrench is split so that it can be installed around the carbide
shield of the nozzle assembly (gold item in Figure 6-1). The wrench retainer (light
blue in Figure 6-2) is then put over the split wrench to hold it together and the
nozzle is tightened into the ABRASIJET gun with a 1/2-in square drive torque
wrench with a setting of around 100 lbf.ft
Note
It is important to make sure the O-ring is not pinched during the assembly. The
AbrasiJET nozzle face must flush against the flat surface of the gun housing.
A leak may erode and washout the nozzle if it is not made up flushed against
the housing.

9 Assembly Procedure
The reverse ball check assembly is supplied as a complete assembly and does
not generally require much maintenance.
Examine to make sure the ball retains a seal against the ball seat in the housing.
In the event of erosion at the seat, a new sub can be purchased, or the seat
can be polished at a machine shop. In practice, the seat does not erode much,
because the flow of slurry past the seat is in the reverse direction. The retaining
pin has been shown to withstand substantial flow before eroding significantly.
Note
The ball, pin, and spacer should still be inspected after every job. Replacing
these parts is inexpensive and should be done if any visible loss of material has
occurred. A bull nose guide must be ordered separately and threaded onto the
bottom of the reverse check valve assembly to aid during run in-hole operations.

Note
The above systems represent what is available for order via SWPS under a
single top level part number. There are numerous configurations that could
be created. One system cannot accommodate every potential combination.
However, the above systems represent a template of what type and quantity of
components can be ordered for operation in a given casing size. To create a
more customized system, use the tables of this manual to identify the different
part numbers and order those part numbers as separate line items.

11 Maintenance
Maintenance to be performed as per Stem Guidelines Tech Unit (InTouch
content ID 4318891).
11.1 STEM I
The tool technician should perform a visual inspection on all tools being
redressed. Visual inspection should include the sealing surfaces, O-ring grooves

and threads. Any parts found to be worn or damaged out with specification
should be replaced.
When removed from the tool string, the tool should be thoroughly cleaned and
inspected with the steps that follow.
1. Remove and discard the tools seals or O-rings.
2. Check for wear.
3. Clean the tool and make sure that the O-ring tracks are free from debris.
4. Lightly grease all components and follow the assembly procedure.
11.2 STEM II
The tool inspection must be performed by the tool technician with assistance
from the Quality Control Department. Inspections are to be performed as per
the following STEM schedule.

Quality Note
If a tool has been subjected to an over-pull condition or has been stuck and
jarred on, an NDE inspection is mandatory.
Document your results on the Stem III sheet. Fill in traceable information
such as the purchase order number, work order number, heat number, batch
number, quantity, inspected by and date. Replace damaged parts with inspected
replacement parts and record the new traceable data on the Stem III data sheet.
Perform NDE inspection, after the parts have been inspected by the quality
department and before reassembly. Make a history folder for each assembly.
Place a copy of the checklists, Stem III sheet and NDE inspection report in
the folder. The tool is now ready for assembly and testing as per Tech Manual
requirements.

12 Torque
The torque used to make up the BHA is based on the material used for the
connections and the thread dimensions. Section 4 of CoilTOOL'S Guidelines for
Downhole Tools, InTouch ID# 5240032, gives the make-up torque values for the
BHA. See that document for the torque values for your BHA.
