PASSIVE VOICE (CÂU BỊ ĐỘNG)

* PHẦN I: LÝ THUYẾT TRỌNG TÂM
1. Form:

BE + PAST PARTICIPLE + ( BY )

Active: S + V + O

Passive: S + be + past participle + ( by + O)

Ex1: Active: Mr. Nam teaches English.

Passive: English is taught by Mr. Nam.
Ex2: Active: Someone helped you last night.
Passive: You were helped (by someone) last night.
Notes:
a. Trong câu bị động by + O luôn đứng sau adverbs of place (trạng từ chỉ nơi chốn) và đứng
trước  adverbs of  time (trạng từ chỉ thời gian).
b. Trong câu bị động, có thể bỏ: by people, by us, by them, by someone, by him, by her nếu chỉ
đối tượng không xác định.
c. Nếu O trong câu bị động là sự vật, sự việc thì dùng with thay cho by.
Ex: The bird was shot with the gun. → The bird was shot by the hunter. 

2. The simple present and the present continuous in passive (Câu bị động ở thì hiện tại
đơn và thì hiện tại tiếp diễn)
a. The simple present in passive.
- Form:
BE + PAST PARTICIPLE + ( BY )

Active: S + V + O

Passive: S + be + past participle + ( by + O)

Ex1: Active: She writes a story.

Passive: A story is written (by her).
Ex2: Active: Frank builds some houses.
Passive: Some houses are built by Frank.
b. The present continuous in passive.
- Form:
BE + BEING + PAST PARTICIPLE + ( BY )

Active: S + am/is/are + V-ing + O

Passive: S + am/is/are + being + past participle + ( by + O)

Ex1: Active: The postman is delivering the mail.

Passive: The mail is being delivered by the postman.
Ex2: Active: Harry Potter is measuring the room.
Passive: The room is being measured by Harry Potter.
Ex3: Active: The coach is congratulating the team at the moment.
Passive: The team is being congratulated by the coach at the moment.
Ex4: Active: Are they opening the gifts here now?
Passive: Are the gifts being opened here (by them) now?

CAUSATIVES (THỂ CẦU KHIẾN)
1. Causatives (Thể cầu khiến): Được dùng để diễn tả mong muốn hay yêu cầu, nhờ vả khi bạn
muốn ai đó làm gì.
2. The active Causatives (Thể cầu khiến chủ động):
2.1 Have/get: sai khiến, nhờ vả ai đó làm gì
Have + somebody + do + something
Get + somebody + to do + something
Ex: I have Tom paint my house. (Tôi nhờ Tom sơn lại nhà của mình)
= I get Tom to paint my house.
* Một số dạng thức cầu khiến chủ động khác có thể tham khảo thêm như sau:
2.2 Make/ force: bắt buộc ai phải làm gì
Make + somebody + do something
Force + somebody + to do + something
Ex: She makes him reply her email. (Cô ấy bắt anh ấy phải hồi âm email của cô ấy).
= She forces him to reply her email.
2.3 Let/ permit/ allow: Để, cho phép ai đó làm gì
Let + somebody + do + something
Permit/ allow + somebody + to do something
Ex: My mother permit me go out tonight. (Mẹ cho phép tôi ra ngoài tối nay).
= My mother permit/allow me to go out tonight.
2.4 Help: Giúp ai đó làm gì
Help + somebody + do/ to do + something
Ex: He helps me carry my luggage up to my room. (Anh ấy giúp tôi mang hành lý lên phòng của
mình)

Lưu ý: Nếu tân ngữ sau “help” là những đại từ bất định, thì ta có thể lược bỏ tân ngữ đó và “to”.
Ex: I helped someone to cross the street. (Tôi đã giúp một ai đó qua đường)
= I help someone crossed the street.
3. The passive Causatives (Thể cầu khiến bị động):
 3.1 Have/ get something done: Nhờ ai đó làm gì cho mình
Have/ get + something + V(p.p)
Ex: I have my car repaired. (Tôi nhờ họ sửa chiếc xe của mình)

* Một số dạng thức cầu khiến bị động khác có thể tham khảo thêm như sau:
3.2 Cause something done: Làm cho cái gì bị làm sao
Cause + something + V(p.p)
Ex: The bad weather caused the picnic delayed. (Thời tiết xấu đã làm cho buổi cắm trại bị hoãn)
3.3 Want/need: Muốn ai đó làm gì cho mình (theo ý nghĩa ra lệnh)
Want/ need + something + (to be) + V(p.p)
Ex: I need my computer fixed. (Tôi muốn máy tính của mình được sửa)
3.4 Would like/prefer: Muốn ai đó làm gì cho mình (đây là câu mệnh lệnh lịch sự)
Would like/ prefer + something + (to be) + V(p.p)
Ex: I would like the window closed. (Tôi muốn cửa sổ được đóng lại).
