Excel 3: Counting & Adding

1) Excel functions for counting and adding:


i. Counting:
1. COUNT function:
Counts numbers ONLY in a range of cells.
i. Counts only the Numbers!
ii. Will ignore text items.

2. COUNTA function: Count all the cells in a range of cells that are filled (i.e., are not
empty)
Cells filled with these will be counted
ALL numbers,
text,
logical values,
error values
in essence EVERYTHING EXCEPT EMPTY CELL
i. This Function is Commonly used for counting words.

3. COUNTIFS function: Counts only those cells in a range of cell which meet the
criteria
(i.e., cells which meet one or two criteria , idk about 2 criteria yet).
i. Example: Can count how many times the word “Gigi” appears in a range of
names/cells.

ii. Adding:
1. SUMIFS function: SUMS/ADDs together values of only those cells in a given range
of cell which meet the criteria
2) Example: Add the sales for just the Sales
Representative “Gigi”.
