WARM UP
Time: 2 minutes

• GROUP Say Show me your hands, like this. Put both hands up to the camera and
wiggle your fingers, and prompt the students to copy you.
• GROUP Ask What can we do with these?
• GROUP Highlight the photograph of the girl with hands around her eyes and copy
what the girl is doing. Prompt the students to copy her and you.
• GROUP Repeat the process for the other two photographs.
• GROUP Say I know something else we can do with our fingers. We can count
with them. Hold up your fingers in turn as though counting on them, but do NOT
teach the number names.
• GROUP Say Let’s get started learning about numbers and counting!

• GROUP Hold up one finger and say This is one. Prompt the students to hold up
one finger and say one.
• GROUP Circle the word one and the numeral 1 in turn as you say This is the word
one and this is the number 1.
• SINGLE Have some of the students repeat the word one individually if time
allows.
• GROUP Say Let’s draw the number 1!
• GROUP Draw a couple of numeral 1s on the blackboard and prompt all the
students to draw numeral 1s.

One, two, three, four, five. Prompt the students to count along with you.
• GROUP Hold up two fingers and say Show me two! Prompt the students to hold
up two fingers and to say the word two.
• GROUP Repeat the activity with the numbers one to five in random order as time
allows.
• PAIR EXTENSION [optional] Prompt one student to hold up one to five fingers
and the other student to copy him/her and say how many fingers there are.
