We all have visited kiryana store many times in our life to buy snacks, cooking ingredients ,
detergents, soaps etc. We just go to the shop, ask for the thing we need, shopkeeper looks for it,
packs it and give to us. But this time going to the store was not just to buy stuff, infact this time
reason was different, I went there as a researcher. This time the purpose was to research about how
the kiryana store operates.I went to a kiryana store and observed many things like placement of the
the products, environment and ambiance of the store and in last interviewed the shopkeeper. The m
store we visited was Bismillah Super Store. Shop was small. Products were arranged in shelves. Few
products were kept at such height that a person’s hand cannot reach there so the shopkeeper use a
stick to get the things out of the shelve. Few products were kept on shelve behind the shopkeeper’s
counter so to get those you need to ask the shopkeeper to pick it from the shelve. Few things like
chips, fridge containing drinks and icecream were place openly in-front of the counter, you just
simply pick it and ask the shopkeeper to pack it. The shop looked clean and nicely organised.Smell
was also not bad. Shopkeeper looked clean and properly dress. The Buying transaction is as simple
as it can get. You ask for the product, take the product, pay at the counter, the person provides you
with a shopper and you're good to go.
After interviewing the Storekeeper, he told that most of the people visit the shop in the evening,
people in this vicinity tend to take their necessary groceries weekly.
When asked about the promotions, he told us that any discount that is offered from the company
itself are offered, he himself doesn't offer any discounts.
