Read and circle the correct answer.

This is Akiko. She is from Japan. She lives in Kyoto.


Look at your watch. It is 11.00 a.m. in Kyoto now. It
is not dark. Akiko is at school.

This is Suzan. She is from


England. She lives in
London. Look at your watch.
It is 3 a.m. in London now. It
is still dark. Suzan is in her
bed.
When it is daytime in Japan, it is nighttime in
England. The day starts in London 8 hours after it
starts in Kyoto. The world is very big. The time is not
the same for everyone around the world. Why? That
is because there are different time zones. The earth
makes a half-turn in 12 hours. Sometimes there are
different time zones in one country. Big countries
such as the USA and Russia has different time zones.
For example, USA has got four different time zones.

1. The time difference between Kyoto and London is 11 / 8 hours.


2. For Akiko, the day changes before / after it changes for Suzan.
3. It is daytime / nighttime in Kyoto now.
4. In Russia / Japan, there are different time zones because it is a big
country.
5. Kyoto and London are in the same day / time zone now.
