What do you know about braking systems? In pairs, discuss the

following questions.

1- Generally speaking, what do brakes do and how do they

work?

-Brakes are used to stop a vehicle or bicycle, they work with a pad
that exerts pressure on a brake disc to slow down until the vehicle
comes to a stop.

2- what kinds of material are used in brake pads and brake discs
in different vehicles?

-Stainless steel or light metals such as aluminum or titanium are

mostly used in brake discs, and pads are usually made of rubber
compounds and carbon-based materials such as Kevlar.

1- Why do most braking systems waste energy?

-These systems waste energy as heat from friction in the brakes.

Regenerative brakes limit the energy loss inherent in traditional
baking system.
2- What are regenerative braking systems, and how do they
save energy?

-They are the ones that allow electric cars to brake using the motor,
save energy when braking since it produces and stores it in the car's
battery, they store it as a source of power for subsequent
acceleration.

3- What characteristics are required of materials used for the

brakes on racing cars?

- Compounds of exotic, non-hazardous materials. They respond

quickly when braking and grip well without slipping, that they are
resistant and reliable and above all resistance to heating.

4- What is meant by heat soak, and why is it a problem in racing

cars?

-Heat recovery might offer the added benefit of reducing heat soak
(thermal absorption by the chassis) as delicate alloy parts and
sensitive nonmetallic material, such as polymers are susceptible to
heat damage.
