I. OBJECTIVES
 To differentiate the different types of tubes.
 To know the proper way of connecting tubes.
 To accurately use the proper size of tubes.

II. INTRODUCTORY PART

Flanged Pipe Fittings

Flanged range of pipes, fittings and joints enables the creation of fixed
networks and above-ground networks, in particular. Flanged networks are designed for water
treatment plants or pumping stations. They are installed above ground: pipes and bends are
apparent to allow for speedy intervention. The Flanged pipes are available with a diameter of
between 60 and 2000 mm. They are reserved for specific points such as valve chambers.

Tapered Thread Pipe Fittings

Are primarily used to carry liquids and gases. Because of this, they need to have
threaded connections that are gas or liquid tight. Tapered threads help make better seals. The
male and female threads compress and wedge themselves together. As a result, these
connections are stronger and leak resistant.

Parallel Thread Pipe Fittings

An alternative to tapered threads in pipe joints is the use of parallel threads, similar to
the threads of machine screws and bolts. Since parallel threads are incapable of forming a
pressure-tight seal on their own, the sealing action of a parallel thread pipe fitting must be
achieved some other way. This function is usually met with an O-ring or gasket.

Compression Tube Fittings

Is a fitting used in plumbing and electrical conduit systems to join two tubes or thin-

walled pipes together. In instances where two pipes made of dissimilar materials are to be
joined (most commonly PVC and copper), the fittings will be made of one or more compatible
materials appropriate for the connection.
III. ANALYSIS

All instruments connect to their respective processes and to each other by means of a
pipe, tube, and/or wires. An improper connection may lead to huge problems in the process.
Pipe are hollow structures used to lead process fluid to the desired destination. Pipes are not
single cast but different pieces and equipment like valves and the different meter should be
installed, hence many joints are needed. This section discusses some of the more common
methods for joining pipes together.

IV. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

1. What is the difference of flanged and coupler?

The couplers are threaded. Then a flanged is welded to the end of each pipe, and then
the two flanges are bolted.

2.  What is flange coupling?

Flange coupling is a type of coupling between rotating shafts that consists of flanges (or
half couplings) one of which is fixed at the end of each shaft, the two flanges being bolted
together with a ring of bolts to complete the drive.

3. What is temperature?

A flange is a method of connecting pipes, valves, pumps and other equipment to form a
piping system. It also provides easy access for cleaning, inspection or modification. Flanges
are usually welded or screwed. Flanged joints are made by bolting together two flanges with a
gasket between them to provide a seal.
