GROUP PROJECT
INSTRUCTION
COURSE CODE: BFC21002
COURSE NAME: CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING
SEMESTER/ SESSION: SEMESTER 2, SESSION 2020/2021
TASK:
By referring to table 1, the team of students assigned to:
1) Explain in details step by step and discuss all activities related to one of the listed
topics.
2) Apply construction sequence procedure according to construction stage and
building components (C3, PLO1).
3) Reproduce a method of construction sequence with complete details sketch or
drawing according to industrial practices (P3, PLO11).
4) Respond and comply with construction method by adopting current, new and
improved technologies (A2, PLO7)
5) Use creativity and “Think outside the box” to justify the applicability of methods
for it is also part of the evaluation of the group commitment and communication.
6) Prepare a comprehensive report for items 1, 2,3 and 4.
7) Develop a short (3-5minutes) video based on construction work activities and
the sequence of your selected topic.

1 From soil investigation, site clearing, earth work (cut and fill) (including
equipment and plant that been used).
2 Retaining Walls (RC retaining walls, gabion and interlocking, sheet piles)
(including installation of the reinforcement bar).
3 Pad footing, stump, ground beam and ground slab, column and upper beam/
upper slab/ roof beam (including installation of the reinforcement bar).
4 Foundation, a type of common foundation is used (including installation of the
reinforcement bar).
5 From site clearing, set up platform of pilling machine, setting out pile position,
installation of reinforce concrete (RC) pile, cut of pile, starter bars, pile cap, stump,
ground beam and ground slab.
6 From soils investigation works, compare installation of RC square pile, RC spun
pile and bore pile construction.
7 Formwork system From Pile cap, stump, beam, slab, column upper beam and
upper slab/ to the roof beam.
8 Upper beam and upper slab/ roof beam (including installation of the
reinforcement bar), truss system, roof installation and types.
9 External infra (sewerage system and manhole, water piping system, road and
drainage) and internal utility services (electrical piping system, sanitary and toilet
piping system, water piping system and water tank).
10 Wall, staircase, window and door and construction joint
Reporting and submission:

1) Title and group (FIVE or SIX students) will be under the Lecturer decision.

2) Each maximum of 25 pages (excludes Appendix).

3) Font: Arial– size 12 – 1.5 spacing.

4) Must also include; Introduction, Conclusion, References (more than 20 references)
and Appendixes.
5) Submit a softcopy of the full report (word and pdf), Slide PPT presentation and
also a video of 3- 5 minutes.
6) Submission on week 13.
